“It is an astounding number of preventable deaths from one cause in one year, an absolutely astounding number. It’s a sign of a phenomenal failure of policy and practice" My view via The Guardian. Also quotes from @chrischirp of @IndependentSage theguardian.com/world/2021/j…

You might not be aware there is an 'anti lockdown' protest in Trafalgar Square this Saturday, the 'Unite for Freedom' event. It boasts "Top World Class Doctors & Nurses" which piqued my interest. So I thought I'd look them up.

NEW: a common response to reports of hospitals struggling this winter is "it’s no different to a bad flu season!" I’ve tracked down historical data on flu ICU admissions, including winter 2017-18, a record high. Here’s how England’s Covid winter compares to a bad flu season 📹

As our friends and colleagues brave the font lines, we must also get ready for a series of aftershocks. It's very hard to plan this far ahead while we're in survival mode. We must prepare early and strategize our response to the collateral damage of #COVID19

Asked by @CNN about a state health dept webinar suggesting that healthcare workers who don't have masks use bandanas or repurpose baby diapers (!). Here's my response. #covid19 #GetUsPPE

Manage expectations minimising risks/complications: do best as we can for as many as we can, not feasible delivering (pre-pandemic) standard care w #COVID19 surge; caring in PPE not easy/slower staff will tire easily breaks needed @BOULANGERCAROLE @ESICM #covidmarathon #COVIDFOAM
On March 27, Bank of China donates medical supplies (including 30000 medical masks, 10000 sets of protective clothing, 10000 goggles and 50000 pairs of gloves, followed by N95 medical masks) to Canada fighting against COVID-19. We are together!

Just finished a week in our critical care rapid response service @SinaiHealth with protected code blues, sims and routine ICU admission. I am humbled by the courage, leadership, & innovation I have seen by my MD, RN, RT and allied health colleagues.

Arizona couple in their 60s, took an additive called #chloroquine phosphate, used to clean fish tanks, to try to prevent infection with the coronavirus. Within half an hour, both needed to seek emergency medical care. The man later died. nbcnews.com/health/health-ne…

Please help us get this video seen by as many people as possible. NHS staff like this brave woman cannot get the food they need, and something needs to be done about it urgently.

I'm going out on a limb, making a prediction: By March 23 we will have 30,000 (or more) reported cases in the USA. You can all laugh at me on Mar 24. Or weep with me. I'm basing this forecast on how tightly US is tracking the trail of Italy, coupled w/our far larger population.
