If you don't understand something in a flashcard, you have to figure out where you were confused and go find some new information to help you understand.
But, most of the time honestly, you just go on to the next one and hope you can remember to get it right the next time.
The key idea behind smart cards is to get immediate and precise feedback on what you don't understand so that you can more easily close your understanding gap.
