France is getting a lot of attention, but there’s another international market I’ve been following: Indonesia.
On Thursday, MSCI proposed moving Indonesia from emerging-market to standalone status. Indonesian stocks fell more than 11% on Friday.
The timing is bad as Indonesia is facing fiscal pressure and concerns about policy credibility.
The angle is Singapore $EWS. Singapore has deep financial links with Indonesia, and roughly half the ETF is concentrated in two large banks.
Lending to Indonesian entities at around 3–5% of total loans, equivalent to roughly 25–40% of their common equity Tier 1 capital.
These are well-capitalized so the base case is that any fallout remains manageable.
Nonetheless, the puts aren't really being bid up over the past few days and may potentially be cheap here (depending on modeling assumptions).

Warren Buffett made his son pay rent on a 400-acre farm, priced by his body weight.
Howard Buffett didn’t know he was rich.
His sister told her class their dad was a security guard. He was a security analyst.
Howard tried 3 colleges. He finished 0.
Warren wasn’t worried. “It made no difference to me whether he found it in a college or not.”
Then Howard chose farming. Warren bought the land. Howard paid the rent.
The terms:
Target weight: 182.5 pounds.
Howard weighed about 200.
Over the line: 26% of gross income.
Under it: 22%.
“Financial incentives are supposed to work in some things,” Warren said. “They don’t work very well at weight.”
Why not just give him the farm?
“I don’t think he’s entitled to be given a farm just because his last name is Buffett.”
September 18, 2026. Howard, 71, became chairman of Berkshire Hathaway.
Warren wouldn’t give his son a farm. The board gave him a $1 trillion company.

This is crazy. Warren is just like us.

Few understand this, but Iran is setting US monetary policy via Hormuz.
By driving oil prices higher, inflation rises, forcing the Fed to hike rates to combat that inflation.
The problem with all of this is that with debt-to-GDP above 100% and $2T deficits, the US can't afford higher rates for long.
Iran doesn't have to defeat the US military... it just has to break the UST market, which is happening in real time.
This is the cornerstone of our financial system.
We don't own enough gold for what's coming.

New 24-year high for the 10Y Note Yield and the S&P 500 is up another +50 points today.
This puts the S&P 500 less 0.5% away from a new record high.
Meanwhile, the most common question right now is:
"How is the S&P 500 nearing record highs with surging yields?"
When you zoom out and look at the real drivers behind this market, it all makes sense and it all adds up.
Assets are repricing accordingly.

🚨LATEST: Sumitomo Mitsui DS reportedly EXITED its entire position in French government bonds, rotating into German Bunds and short-term Japanese debt.
This wasn’t a trim. It was a full exit.
France’s 10-year spread over Germany has reportedly surged past 140 basis points, while 5-year CDS climbed to around 81 bps, signaling sharply higher perceived sovereign credit risk.
The bigger risk is the flow.
Japanese investors still hold roughly ¥25 trillion of French debt. If more capital follows this rotation home, France could be forced to attract buyers with even higher yields just as fiscal concerns are already pressuring its bonds.
Cheap-yen carry trades helped finance higher-yielding assets around the world for years.
Now Japan’s capital coming home could start reversing that trade.
France may be getting an early look at what a broader yen-funded unwind looks like.

🚨 Japan Just Broke The French Bond Market
One Tokyo fund (Sumitomo Mitsui DS) didn’t trim exposure. It dumped every French government bond it held and rotated into German Bunds and short-term Japanese paper.
Not a reduction. Full exit. Something that even shocked the Financial Street.
The France-Germany 10-year spread blew past 140 basis points, the widest gap since the euro crisis.
France's 5-year CDS has spiked up to 81 basis points, the highest since 2013. The higher the number, the greater the risk of national bankruptcy.
French domestic holders are now facing a deeper mark-to-market loss and a less liquid exit to sell into the same one-way market.
Japanese investors still sit on roughly ¥25 trillion of French debt, second only to American holders and this was a single manager’s book.
Carry trades that funded higher-yielding global debt market with cheap yen just got a live demo of how fast the unwind can hit.
When the bid from Japan disappears, the largest European sovereign market has to find new buyers at the same time its own government is arguing over a deficit plan that markets already distrust.
If more Japanese money follows the same exit, the same flow that once compressed euro spreads can reprice them in the other direction.
We now understand what @yutokanzakireal meant by saying “Japan is bringing the entire house down” in response to Scott Bessent’s “I am the house now” statement:
Ending cheap-yen funding is forcing a margin call on the leveraged global debt system built on the carry trade and not just the U.S. leverage.
France just got the first real look at what Japan’s wealth returning to the homeland looks like.
Sad fact: Masalah utama ekonomi Indo itu ya rente.
Pelakunya pengusaha-politisi. Mereka jadi pemain sekaligus wasit.
Tujuannya? Biar labanya besar.
- Laba itu diputar buat menyogok aparat penegak hukum dan pejabat, supaya bisnisnya aman.
- Lalu diputar lagi buat modal kampanye, supaya mereka menang pemilu.
Setelah menang, bikin aturan yang menguntungkan bisnisnya sendiri.
Gitu terus.
Sampai jadi lingkaran setan.
> Beras murah? Rente.
> Minyak murah? Rente.
> Daging sapi? Rente.
> Semua komoditas murah, you name it, itu dikuasai rente. Swasta non-rente berani masuk? Disikat habis.
Makanya swasta cuma bisa berada di produk premium.
Tapi dampaknya apa? Yang miskin makin miskin karena produknya dikuasai rente middleman. Tidak ada kompetisi sama sekali karena oligopoli.

Middle East: Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation. Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance and be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions. Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including civilian airports. This military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly. Americans outside the Middle East should seriously reconsider travel to and through the region. Those who do travel to or from the region should monitor information about airport and airline operations. U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.
