It's starting now! Time to fire up those "in 2027" videos
One thing I've recently changed my mind about: I now think it's ok for the title and thumbnail text to be the same sometimes.
But the concept has to be truly great to double down on.
Every week in my newsletter, I explain the psychology behind 5 viral YouTube videos.
I rank them by how well they overperformed for their channel, and almost every week the best video is the simplest one.
A lot of us try to overcomplicate titles, which is often a mistake.

And they only have 29K subscribers.
The thumbnail speaks straight to anyone who's ever daydreamed about opening a cafe, and the title promises the real numbers behind it. Fantasy plus receipts.

Make the title and thumbnail before you make the video.
Not because it's faster. Because if you can't build a package worth clicking, the video isn't worth making yet.
Packaging first turns a bad idea into a wasted afternoon instead of a wasted week.
A hypothetical YouTube strategy question:
If you were to start a new YouTube channel about pets, would you cover dogs AND cats, to maximize potential audience size, or dogs OR cats, to build a more focused audience?

And they only have 16K subscribers.
The $500 price tag does most of the work here — it's low enough that you have to see how it's possible. And the thumbnail doesn't repeat the number, it just tells you what to feel about it: "GENIUS IDEA".
Always write 10+ titles for your YouTube video.
Whenever I force myself to write 10+ titles, I almost always discover new angles or phrases I hadn't considered before.
If you're struggling to do this, write titles from these different angles:
• Curiosity
• Fear
• Desire

Is it perfect? No.

And ranking channels based on views on new long-form videos published in the last 6 months is helpful to know who’s winning recently, not all time.
But it’s a fun tool, it can help you research niches, and it’ll help you discover channels you probably haven’t heard of before.
