I liked the world better when the news came on for 30 minutes and then we did other shit for 23 1/2 hours. Now the news follows you around all day like a hobo begging for change.

I first met Charlie Kirk more than ten years ago. At that time, he was very young, and possessed an evangelical naivety that was relatively foreign to a Canadian. He was truly and somewhat amusingly shocked, for example, at the pervasive smell of marijuana on the streets of Toronto. It was obvious, however—despite that sheltered mien—that Charlie was someone deeply and singularly committed to a unique mission, and that he would be driven to learn everything necessary to its success. I met him in person another dozen times after that, and was asked to speak at a number of Turning Point events. I enjoyed the events. It was a very good thing to see thousands of enthusiastic young people trying to make things better in their somehow endearing conservative American way. It was also fascinating to watch Charlie develop in sophistication over the years. The bravery he showed in presenting a truly conservative viewpoint on university campuses was part of that development, as was the ferocious skill he developed at debating contentious issues, under trying conditions, for years. My wife, Tammy, and I met his lovely wife Erika with him on several private dinners. They made a truly admirable and mutually respectful couple. We had plans to make such meetings a regular occurrence—but life, and death, got in the way. I was not informed about Charlie's murder for several months after it occurred, in consequence of my recent illness. It came as a terrible shock. It is also truly awful to see what a spectacle has been made of his demise by pathological actors across the political spectrum. He was a solid, decent, hard-working, truthful, brave person. We are all—right and left alike—lesser without him. On the right: because he was an example and a leader. On the left: because he would willingly talk across the aisle, and in good faith. There will come a day—and too soon, I am afraid—when even those who vilify his memory will long for the days when people such as Charlie existed, and made such civilized talk a priority. I had the privilege to sit down with Charlie and talk with him about his life and the world not so many months before that was no longer possible: youtu.be/dP0TagcNvCg?si=F1fW… RIP Mr. Kirk. I write that in true sorrow.

In other words: the Democrats are living in political reality, whereas the Republicans are trying to act out a historical fantasy. Interesting correlation with who keeps losing
Honestly, the most disturbing thing about this election is that Democrat voters clearly assume that any Democrat leader is just a figurehead & that the deep bureaucratic state really runs the show...and will cover for them. Trump...love him or hate him...ran for POTUS to exercise the powers of that office. Kamala ran to be Queen of England, to be a figurehead who "makes history" while encouraging the Federal Senior Executive Service who really run Democratic stuff to go further.

Pro-Choice advocates will use stories like this to advance their agenda.
Former Kentucky cheerleader has pleaded guilty to killing her newborn baby and stuffing him in a trash bag in her closet, claims she was under "emotional stress." 22-year-old Laken Snelling has admitted to killing her newborn baby by "depriving him of oxygen." "I was under a lot of emotional stress and my baby came unexpectedly... And instead of helping him I ended his life and afterwards I cleaned up and didn’t tell anyone," she said in court. She has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant. Will Lindsay Clancy fans raise $1M for her too?

This is the #1 reason that there is a 0% chance I will vote for her. @RickJacksonGA can win on this alone if he stays focused and avoids any unforced errors.
I took this photo walking out of my office at the Georgia State Capitol on June 14, 2020. That is riot gear covering the marble floor of the Capitol Rotunda. Law enforcement was preparing to defend our Capitol as Atlanta descended into chaos. Hours earlier, left-wing rioters had shut down the Downtown Connector, smashed windows and burned a Wendy’s to the ground. Firefighters struggled to safely reach the fire. Atlanta’s police chief had resigned. And this was the scene inside our State Capitol. For generations, Georgia’s Capitol stood without a permanent security fence. Then came one term of Keisha Lance Bottoms. Today, an eight-foot steel security fence surrounds the Capitol—a lasting reminder of those dark days. People forget how bad it got. I don’t. This was Keisha Lance Bottoms’ Atlanta.

They don't even care about reserve currency status. It is simply an anti-Vance op.
I am watching the dumbest internal fight on the right I have ever seen about JD Vance’s comments on the dollar being the world’s reserve currency… For what it’s worth I think he is partially correct and partially wrong… There is zero question that being BOTH the world’s reserve currency and a fiat currency has both advantages and disadvantages. The Triffin dilemma, inflationary monetary policy, etc are very real things. I disagree with some of Vance’s reasoning focusing specifically on the manufacturing side, because I think it fails to see how American manufacturing also benefits from greater trade. I am quite sure of these points… You can’t print your way to prosperity and you can’t tariff your way to prosperity. You also can’t centrally freaking plan your way to prosperity. I would think we’d be able to have a decent conversation on these points. But apparently even making them turns me into a “neocon cuck” to one side and a “post liberal woke rightest” on the other… Or…maybe Im not even close to being either of those things. Maybe there is some nuance to the discussion and the right should be able to talk about it without immediately resorting to trashing each other on social media.

Let the Taco Bell jokes commence.
FOX: "Crews are responding after a truck carrying spray foam exploded in the parking lot of a Spartanburg, South Carolina restaurant on Wednesday afternoon. Westview Fire Department said it responded to South Blackstock Road at 2:31 p.m. for a hazardous materials incident involving a chemical called Diphenylmethane, which is a type of spray foam. The tanker was carrying around 2,300 gallons."

I've seen a lot of incredibly stupid straw men on this site over the years, but neocons actually pretending that the whole affordability conversation is literally just about burritos is maybe the stupidest one of all time

I guess I don’t understand why we’re all being so pedantic about this as if we don’t understand the kid’s point.
Has anyone yet provided evidence of the $20.00 burrito that does not involve Uber Eats or DoorDash delivering it?

Compare Calvin Coolidge on America’s 150th anniversary: “It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning can not be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction can not lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers."
NYC Mayor Mamdani on American exceptionalism: "We are told that America is exceptional because we are richer, stronger, more powerful than everyone else... The truth, my friends is that America is exceptional because here, nothing is fixed into place."

Pretty much all of the prominent voices who supported the Iran War assured us it would be over by now. None of them will admit they were wrong. Even less will they admit that their initial assurances were based on nothing but their own wishcasting. This whole shitshow has been an enormous waste of time and resources and our country has not benefited from it at all. Its advocates have moved the goal posts repeatedly and have even to this day refused to clearly articulate what constitutes a victory and how we’ll know that it’s been achieved.
