We call on France to exercise restraint when dispersing the freedom fighters on the streets of Paris. These brave warriors for justice must receive immediate humanitarian aid, and their safety must be guaranteed in accordance with international law. Failure to comply will leave us no choice but to bring a case before the ICJ, in close cooperation with that renowned champion of human rights, Afghanistan.

Billions of pounds lost on a single project because we can’t connect it to the grid for half a decade and have destroyed our capacity to generate reliable electricity.

The Daily Mail very competently speculates that "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," is to blame for a man climbing into a tiger pen and getting mauled to death at a UK zoo recently. Owing to the fact it features "large sabre cats."

Sally Rooney hasn't been censored. She's been censured. A lot of people don't appear to know the difference. She can say whatever she likes, she just can't finance terrorism.

Borrowing phrasing meant to recall the Pastor Niemoller poem which specifically culminates in the Nazi persecution of the Jews when your party has just voted in favour of the persecution of Jews is some chutzpah.

how can you not be bullish on Kanishka? - calls out bullshit - knows his shit - knows what he doesn't know - stays curious - gets shit done (very quickly and all the time) - he's always right at the centre of where he should be When we interviewed him yesterday The Minister reminded me that there will come a time when he is no longer in that position, it made me sad, and I told him.
UK AI Minister @KanishkaNarayan in response to the call for a ban on Super-Intelligence in the UK after an open-letter was circulated by 40 MP's to stop AI: "We don't have super-intelligence in this country. We actually, as you say, don't have a position to be able to do so anytime soon. The most effective thing we can do is build the capability to test and understand risks that others are perpetrating as a result of them building it." "Harden defenses. Huge uplift needed in our cyber capabilities to defend ourselves...convene the world, as we will do in the run-up to the G20, to be able to shape others' destinies through our values, and ultimately build in Britain over the long term." "When I think about the political conversation I sort of feel like people want to just pull whatever lever they can see rather than the lever that actually ends up making a difference in the real world." "This isn't about being pro-regulation or anti-regulation. For me, it's not a question of what's the tactical mechanism. It's a question of what's going to drive change in the world."

Anyone who has been around Brixton station of late will be aware that the area is covered in litter. Bins are overflowing, there is a severe homelessness issue and it's crackhead/anti-social behaviour galore. So, shall we check in on what Lambeth Council will be spending time discussing at its meeting this evening? Well! Tonight Lambeth Council, led by a Green-Lib Dem coalition is due to discuss Motion 3 (Green Group): Palestine – End the Genocide, Complicity and Impunity. "This motion condemns Israel's actions in Gaza, calls for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages. It also calls on the UK Government to halt arms exports, impose economic sanctions, and provide evidence to the International Criminal Court. It further proposes that the Council review its contracts and investments to divest from companies complicit in violations of international law." Note they haven't even been bothered to update the language still referencing hostages... This is Lambeth Council's priority while some of the worst crime and antisocial behaviour in London is happening as we speak within its boundaries.

Today I went to a select committee hearing on AI. A few interesting things came out of it, but what really stuck with me was the behaviour of the MPs They weren’t paying attention At one point I counted 6 of the 13 MPs on the committee looking at their phones. And not in that way you do when you’re quickly checking something - two stared at their phones for over half an hour. Several others left before the end Many people think AI is the most important thing in the world. The MPs were warned there was a 50/50 chance it might destroy humanity! You’d think that’d be enough to make you take your chance to listen to experts and key players on the topic - apparently not

British politicians like to think we’re global leaders, setting trends and precedents (net zero, infinite asylum, giving up Chagos islands, AI safety institute, the NHS); but in reality nobody is copying us because they can see how terrible the outcomes are.
One of my favourite quotes, from when a British MP learnt that no other country in the world has a scheme like ours.

This is a slightly surreal Commons statement from Andy Burnham The major unfolding Ukraine crisis on which the UK is expected to lead, and an Iranian state attack on Britain, have been mentioned only very briefly almost as causal asides Instead the PM is headlining this Commons statement, his first appearance in front of Parliament in weeks, on minor developments in EU relations that frankly pale into insignificance in comparison And even the EU section of the statement has been derailed because of the row over his Brexit/Russian interference comments

They were forced to do this in a secret location — in Ireland — a country with no involvement in this conflict. A disgrace.
On Sunday evening in a secret location in Dublin the Irish Jewish community and its friends came together to remember and commemorate the terrible events of October 7th. through prayers, reflection, songs and personal testimony. Those in attendance were only notified of the venue 20 hours beforehand and specifically requested not to name the location. During the event victims like Irish-Israeli Kim Damti and Ruth Peretz and Arik, her father and carer, were amongst those mentioned by name. After 100 years of Irish independence Jews today have to conceal their lawful activities for fear of antisemitic attack. @OHanlonEilis @AllisonPearson @1rorycowan @JillKerby @boggywood

ICMYI: A Sunday long-read. In today's Britain, public services, and spending, are increasingly distorted to serve the insatiable 'needs' of the bottom 1%. We need a Government that focuses relentlessly on improving the lives of the central 80-90%. edrith.co.uk/p/for-the-98?ut…
