Feeling nostalgic as @deno_land winds down. It's what made me fall in love with TypeScript. In 2021, I built a local newspaper's subscription billing on Deno. Then Node caught up, and I went back. Is that how incumbents win – by absorbing the challenger's best ideas?

The newspaper was katapult-mv.de. Every month, the script read all subscriptions, generated SEPA direct debit XML files, and we uploaded them to the bank, which then collected the fees from every reader's account. They also got their invoice as a PDF by email. Fun!

In 2022, I bet our company's public API on @nitrojsdev. Today: ~200M requests a month. Thanks @_pi0_ for continously building Nitro!

Found the recording: me, still new at the company, confidently pitching a server engine most people hadn't heard of yet. 😄

TOON v4 is out. ♨️ The criticism was fair: on nested data, v3 lost to compact JSON. Same weather document: 204 tokens in v3 against 162 compact. v4: 204 → 128.

The nested header started as an RFC from Noah Nyholm – with grammar, benchmarks, and test cases. Thanks! Also in v4: keyed tabular form, comment lines, key folding removed. All the changes: toonformat.dev/guide/whats-n…

apiful is a fetch client you compose. Your OpenAPI schema becomes .d.ts – no bundle overhead. v5 adds: ✅ `apiful generate --check` fails on stale types ✅ .with() chains stay fast at any length ✅ your own extensions see the ones before them, typed 🔗 apiful.land

Every .with() used to wrap the client in another proxy, so one property read walked the whole stack 😬 1 extension: 28 ns 3 extensions: 650 ns 6 extensions: 7.75 µs v5 wraps the base client once. → 28 ns, whatever the depth.

`apiful generate` turns each service's schema into .d.ts files. `--check` does the same work but writes nothing, so a stale checkout fails the command instead of compiling against types that no longer match the API.

Can’t wait to dive into this atmosphere. This might just become my favorite Gen 2 ROM hack.

Been watching Drew Gooden’s take on the real-live adaptation of Avatar season 2: youtu.be/7fmyTueYPhw 👏 @the_flandrew Video idea: When Avatar The Last Airbender rules the world. Many licensed games by THQ the cover. Some of them even playable. What do you think?

OK, so I can ditch PDF.js just for text extraction now? Gotta try this.
we built pdf-inspector so agents can process PDFs without waiting on OCR. it classifies any PDF in ~20ms and extracts clean markdown locally → 200 PDFs processed in 2.8s → top quality in extracting tables + graphs → built in rust → open source github.com/firecrawl/pdf-ins…

Social media thumbnails for repos should be fun, eh?

Tokenizers are heavy – megabytes of vocab data for a number you can estimate. tokenx answers "what does this payload cost me?" in 2 kB, at ~96% accuracy. New in v1.6: 🧮 Heuristics for Cyrillic, kana and emoji 🧱 More accurate on JSON payloads and source code

Calibrated for GPT-5.x models (o200k_base). The ~96% is the mean across 8 samples: prose in 4 languages, formatted and minified JSON, emoji-heavy chat, and tokenx's own source. 👉 github.com/johannschopplich/…

Been experiencing an early version of AGI for a week now. It is breathtaking and overwhelming at the same time. Our sessions are short but intense. She’s currently rate-limited, so back to Claude Code.

Absolutely. That's literally what my team and I worked on during our first onsite event @finanzfluss a few weeks ago. 3 repos (website, workers + bots, wealth tracking web app) → 1 monorepo. Thanks to @pnpmjs catalogs a breeze to work with! 🙏
inevitably, every project moves to a monorepo at some point
