🌱 Introducing AGT-Opener Imi
A new chapter in Australian chickpeas starts here.
AGT-Opener Imi is Australia's first-ever chickpea variety with imidazolinone (Imi) tolerance, giving growers a valuable new option when managing paddocks with residual Imi herbicides and expanding rotational flexibility.
Selected from elite germplasm acquired through the transition of the former Chickpea Breeding Australia program, AGT-Opener Imi is the first chickpea variety released under the AGT banner following our assumption of chickpea breeding responsibilities in 2026.
✅ Australia's first chickpea variety with Imi tolerance
✅ Excellent plant-back option for managing imidazolinone residues
✅ Competitive yield performance against commonly grown varieties
✅ Excellent resistance and tolerance to Pratylenchus thornei (RLN)
While APVMA approval for in-crop use of imidazolinone herbicides is still pending, AGT-Opener Imi already offers a practical solution for growers wanting confidence when planting into paddocks with recent Imi herbicide history.
In recognition of the strong legacy built by Chickpea Breeding Australia, we've continued the tradition of naming chickpea varieties after cricketing terms. As its name suggests, AGT-Opener Imi is first to the crease, leading a new era of chickpea breeding innovation at AGT.

Some new yield map capabilities inside Phase, see underneath the map with your finger or instantly view it in 3D.
After 2 years of learning CAD & 3D printing, I've developed a passion for solving simple on farm problems with practical solutions and have spent the past few months working towards launching my own online business, ARES Agri Solutions. Excited to finally have the website live!
First up are my QuickChem Gauges, designed to make marking chemical removal volumes on IBCs and enviro drums quick and easy.
More products will come in time as I keep developing new ideas. My SeedSmart system is also on the website for a look, but isn't available to order just yet.
Have a look and let me know what you think!, reposts appreciated

GRDC-supported research is testing non-chemical weed control options including abrasive grit, electricity and targeted tillage.
@uwanews trials found abrasive grit achieved up to 100% mortality in wild radish and fleabane at early growth stages, while annual ryegrass required longer exposure.
Work involving @DPIRDbroadacre and @CharlesSturtUni is also testing electric and mechanical options as part of efforts to reduce reliance on herbicides and extend chemistry longevity
