The debate over whether AI development should slow down has dominated headlines. @AnthropicAI's CEO called for pacing frontier capability gains. @OpenAI, @GoogleDeepMind, and accelerationist voices signaled agreement. The White House pushed back, framing it as regulatory capture dressed up as safety concern. Researchers resigned publicly. Pundits turned it into a culture-war proxy fight.
Through it all, I kept asking one question: how much of this changes what I'd tell a client to do next Monday morning?
Not much. That's the point of my recently published series on The #AI Slowdown Debate
My view, plainly: the pace of frontier AI development shouldn't be paused. Security practices around it should be reviewed continuously. Those aren't contradictory — building capability and hardening the perimeter are different disciplines, and conflating them is why this debate generates more heat than clarity.
