A word of advice to the Pope. The walls around the Vatican were ordered by Pope Leo IV and finished around 852 after Muslim Arab raiders sacked St. Peter's Basilica. Do not lecture anyone on walls, immigration, war, or the virtues of Islam.

Maybe next year they’ll give the Chemistry prize to a Hamas bomb maker.
The Nobel committee chair says they have "great faith" in Navi Pillay's integrity, but whether the Hamas-Israel war can be called a genocide is for the ICJ to decide, not them. Then why give the Peace Prize to the person whose commission already decided it, with no authority to do so? This is the same Navi Pillay who: 🚩 Signed a 2020 statement calling on governments to "Sanction Israel," then was appointed a year later to chair the UN inquiry into Israel without disclosing it 🚩 Defended a fellow commissioner who said social media is "controlled largely by the Jewish lobby," calling him "deliberately misquoted." He later apologized for his antisemitism himself 🚩 Ran the 2009 Durban conference that Ahmadinejad opened with an antisemitic speech, after dismissing Jewish groups' warnings as a "lobbying campaign" 🚩 Criticized the US in 2014 for funding Iron Dome to protect Israeli civilians from rockets, with no mention of Hamas firing them They handed her the world's most famous honour two days after the October 7 anniversary and then said they're not taking a position on what she's known for. So what do they mean by "peace"?

Israeli filmmakers have released 'NAZA: The Real Story' to answer the documentary 'NAZA'. The Venice film, by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, rests on anonymous testimony that civilian deaths were built into Israeli targeting in Gaza. The new film, by Lt. Col. Roi Danino, Hagai Gutman and Ariel Averbuch, uses on-the-record interviews with senior commanders and intelligence officers, plus combat footage and captured material. It argues that Hamas embedded fighters and weapons in homes, schools, mosques and hospitals, and that the IDF operated under strict rules of fire because of that. The pushback has already started — attacks on the film and calls to boycott it. If it is buried before people watch it, only one version of the story will circulate. Watch it, then share it as widely as you can — the link, the title, a short note on why it matters. Send it to family, friends, post it, forward it. The film is free at nazadocumentary.com. Do not let a boycott decide what others are allowed to see.

On Monday I wrote that Portugal probably peaked in 2021 and that many are leaving. Yesterday Eurostat published house prices for the second quarter. Portugal 🇵🇹: +16.5% in one year, making this the largest increase in the whole EU. +3.6% in a single quarter. In France, Finland and Luxembourg prices are going down, for context. Worth noting that all of this is happening when the "infamous" NHR has been removed, and the golden visa on real estate too, those elements that for a long time were thought to be responsible for the price increase. If this were true, how can it be justified? The challenge of Portugal and real estate is a historic shortfall of supply and a constant inability to build new housing in time. I am posting here again the slide I've prepared a while back on this topic, with some numbers for reflection. 👇
Portugal peaked probably in 2021. Some people are happy here but many are leaving or thinking of leaving, some disgruntled. My take is that in 5 years almost everyone will have left except fully retired people. Many are choosing Spain, not necessarily Cyprus. It's not a Europe-standard problem but a specific situation that affects only Portugal, if we want to be very honest, a mixture of poor service and systemic culture that, ultimately, many perceive as "unfriendly". Now, equally, there are great places and for some people Portugal can be a better fit, as this is indeed a great country. What's clear is that if things had been handled differently, Portugal could have been the #1 place in Europe with thousands of companies built here, from people already here. This would have benefited everyone, but most of all locals who instead are leaving to London for better jobs. This is a typical European scenario, a lose-lose game we apparently delight in forcing ourselves into. This is a pic I took a few weeks ago on a seaside walk, that well summarises the cultural background and political view that, possibly, has contributed to creating the current situation. I'll let you translate it and come to your own conclusions

🇮🇳 REMEMBER THIS MAN: CAPTAIN SMIT MACHCHHAR. An Indian captain flying hundreds of people from Dubai to Tel Aviv was stabbed in his own cockpit. Wounded, bleeding, with the aircraft plunging thousands of feet, he fought back. Then passengers and crew did something extraordinary: They stormed the cockpit. They restrained the attacker. Other pilots took control. And that plane LANDED. Hundreds of families got their loved ones back today because ordinary people refused to freeze when everything went wrong. Captain Smit Machchhar — India and the whole WORLD should be proud of you. 🇮🇳 And to the passengers and crew who ran toward the danger instead of away from it: Heroes. Every single one of you. This is what courage looks like.

The Israelis who were on the plane and overpowered an armed terrorist hijacker at an altitude of thousands of meters, while the plane was in an insane dive, and saved over 180 people, are nothing less than absolute heroes. The entire nation of Israel is proud of you.

A passenger on the Dubai–Tel Aviv flight recounts: “We are currently in Saudi Arabia. One of the crew members attacked the pilot with a knife and disabled the aircraft’s systems. Yaniv (pictured?) and another passenger stormed the cockpit and subdued the attacker. Luckily, there were two more pilots on board. They were the ones who managed to land the plane.” Well, yes. Overall, the probability that a plane full of Israelis will contain a trained assault team, two additional pilots, and, statistically, at least one cardiac surgeon, psychologist, lawyer, and diamond dealer is substantially higher than 50%.

No te importa. Solo hablas por la verdad. Por eso apoyas a Israel, porque compartimos esta herencia común de justicia y decir la verdad, y nadie lo dice mejor que vos". Milei: “Muchas gracias, amigo. Para mí es un honor recibir tus palabras, siendo uno de los mayores líderes de toda la historia del mundo”.

Os anti-semitas de hoje não saem do armário: Cada dia surgem novas provas de que a vasta maioria da informação sobre Gaza é mera propaganda do Hamas. Isto muda alguma coisa no “espírito do tempo”?
