Larry Bird Trash-Talked Almost Everyone In The NBA. But There Was One Legend He Refused To Say A Word To: Julius Erving. Larry Bird was one of the most fearless competitors basketball has ever seen. He talked trash to Michael Jordan, challenged the toughest defenders, and sometimes told opponents exactly how he was going to score before doing it. But when he faced Julius Erving, something was different. Larry Legend kept his mouth shut. In his autobiography, Bird revealed that guarding Dr. J during his early NBA years was one of the most difficult challenges of his career. Erving was at the peak of his powers, and Bird was still establishing himself as a superstar. Every matchup felt like a battle. Bird admitted that whenever Dr. J attacked the baseline, he knew exactly what was coming. Erving wanted to dunk, and once he gained a step on his defender, stopping him was nearly impossible. Even giving him space wasn't a safe option. Bird remembered Erving's dangerous bank shot from the left side and admitted that defending it frightened him. And Bird believed Dr. J's defense was far better than most people realized. But the most surprising revelation came when Bird discussed their famous rivalry. "Believe me; I never said a word to Dr. J on the court." Bird even addressed the rumors that he had taunted Erving during one particularly heated game. According to Bird, it was teammate M.L. Carr doing the talking from the Celtics bench. That is remarkable considering these two legends once got into a physical confrontation during a Celtics–76ers game in November 1984. Their rivalry was fierce. Their battles were physical. Neither man wanted to lose. Yet Bird's recollections revealed just how deeply he respected the man who had helped revolutionize basketball before his arrival. Larry Bird never lacked confidence. He simply understood how extraordinary Julius Erving was. One Of Basketball's Greatest Trash-Talkers Had Almost Nothing To Say To Dr. J. Sometimes, the greatest respect between two legends needs no words.

Round one of “Hagler vs Hearns” is undoubtedly the greatest opening round in boxing history. This should be posted here once a week. I don’t care how many times I see it, it never gets old.

John Stockton: “I remember as a rookie Larry Bird walked by our bench and said, ‘I feel like 43 tonight.’ Then he came out and scored 43 points by the 3rd quarter and checked himself out.” 🤯 Larry Bird had a special talent for getting inside his opponents' heads before the game was even over. His confidence was legendary, but what made him different was his ability to back up every word with his performance. During a 2018 appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, NBA legend John Stockton recalled an unforgettable moment from his rookie season with the Utah Jazz. “I remember as a rookie Larry Bird walked by our bench and said, ‘I feel like 43 tonight.’ Then he came out and scored 43 points by the 3rd quarter and checked himself out.” Read that again. Bird walked past the opposing bench, predicted how many points he would score, went out and delivered exactly that number before the fourth quarter even began. That was Larry Legend. He wasn't the most athletic player on the court, and he didn't need to be. His basketball IQ, shooting touch, footwork, and understanding of the game allowed him to outsmart defenders who were faster, stronger, and more explosive. Bird didn't just compete against his opponents. He challenged them mentally, too. He would tell them what he was about to do, then make them watch as he did it. Stories like this help explain why Larry Bird's reputation went far beyond his three NBA championships and three consecutive MVP awards. His confidence wasn't empty talk. He had the talent and mentality to turn his boldest predictions into reality. John Stockton experienced it firsthand. And when a legend like Stockton remembers a moment like that decades later, you know it left an impression. Larry Bird didn't need to talk trash all night. Sometimes, one sentence was enough. ☘️

Happy 20th anniversary to the craziest snowstorm to ever hit Buffalo! I remember watching the rain mix with wet snow on the afternoon of the 12th and thinking how crazy it was. I then watched as it slowly turned to wet snow, and then it started sticking to the ground! I didn't think it was possible to have substantial snowfall that early across the lower elevations of WNY, but here we were! The snowfall intensified throughout the afternoon into the evening hours and didn't stop until the next morning. I remember going for a walk with my family at the time to "take in" the devastation before our eyes. Power transformers and trees were snapping like toothpicks all over the area. It literally felt like a war zone. No other meteorological event that I've experienced has come close to the devastation of that night. We lost power for over 2 weeks and over 90% of the trees in the area were either damaged or completely destroyed. I put together a video of some of the damage from that day. Does anyone remember that storm? Share your story!

That time Larry Bird decided to play left-handed against the Blazers because, and this is an actual quote, “I’m saving my right hand for the Lakers.” He put up 47 points, 14 boards, 11 assists. Two nights later, the Celtics beat the Lakers at the Forum.

I have a couple reactions to this 🧵: 1. I'm going to focus on the fact that he vowed to recruit high school kids, even at the Big East level. It's better than Rick Pitino swearing he never will (that's RIDICULOUS). So good for Willard to acknowledge that the trend will continue.
Kevin Willard admits he isn't recruiting any high school players this year 👀 "We're not recruiting a high school kid this year... just because of the fifth-year rule. We have six guys that can come back for a fifth year. So, I'd much rather have one of my players come back, than bring in a high school kid" (🎥: @BIGEAST)

Is there a need to call anyone a dirtbag at a Senate Hearing?
Before calling someone a “dirtbag,” the Senator should have had his facts straight. An apology is in order.    Glad one of us knew the difference between the Atlanta Hawks and the Iowa Hawkeyes!

Jack Smith: "History teaches that the rule of law is rarely destroyed all at once. It's often weakened by attacks on the institutions and the public servants sworn to uphold it. Since January 2025, we have witnessed precisely such an effort."

A phenomenal moment in the Senate. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., claims he has evidence Jack Smith went to a HAWKS game in Atlanta. Smith denies it. Schmitt declares he has busted Jack Smith for perjury. Smith, vexed, says he went to HAWKEYES game in Maryland. Watch the whole thing:
