Today marks 12 years since the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear disasters of 3.11 in Japan. Recovery is an ongoing process and Yahoo Japan will donate 10 yen to affected areas for every search of 3.11 in its search bar today (and for LINE searches too).

This week saw the first sanma (Pacific saury) catch for the annual season being unloaded in Onagawa! 🐟 Residents are now enjoying this fresh fish at home and in local restaurants. Lots of local festivals feature the fish in fall, with the biggest one in Onagawa in October.

If you were issued a visa prior to the pandemic that has now expired, we recommend calling the Japanese embassy/consulate in your country to find out if there are any measures in place for re-issuing of these visas or whether a new application is required.

As of yet, there has been no official guidance issued publicly by the Japanese government on what procedures will look like in such cases, therefore please be sure to do your due diligence before your trip to avoid any unnecessary hiccups.
The resumption of visa-free travel to Japan from October 11 will be for specific countries only. We are hoping to receive clarification over the coming days on exactly which ones and whether it will be the same visa arrangements as prior to the pandemic or a modified list. 1/

Probably at this point, if you required a tourist visa before the pandemic, you can presume you'll likely need one again. If you didn't need one before, it's currently unclear as to whether the JP gov will be reducing the list of visa-free countries in light of COVID or not. 2/

The short answer is, we just don't know yet. If needing a visa would impact your travel plans, we'd advise holding off on bookings until official guidance has been provided. 3/3
