On this day three years ago, Hamas crossed into Israel and murdered, raped and burned its way through communities full of families. Eight of the dead were Canadians. October 7th was never only about Israel. It was an assault on everything free societies stand for: the rule of law, free speech, equal treatment of every citizen, and the idea that we settle our differences without terror. Three years later, people are still glorifying that day on here on our streets. They march under the flags of terrorist organizations our own government has banned. They burn our flag and chant death to Canada outside Parliament. This spring in Montreal, they strung up effigies by the neck in a public square. Meanwhile, foreign agents operate with near impunity. Police stand and watch. And too many of our leaders treat it as a public-relations problem rather than what it is: an assault on Canada. Remember the eight Canadians we lost. Remember who killed them. And remember we must stand up and defend the values they want to destroy.

WOW. Forward bookings from Canada to the U.S. have fallen by more than 70 percent for each month through the end of September, compared to the same period last year. April has seen the steepest decline, with just 296,000 bookings — down 76 percent from 1.3 million. And if you think it's only Canadians who no longer want to visit the U.S., you're sorely mistaken. Many Europeans have canceled their planned vacations to the States as well—a trend that will result in a devastating blow worth many billions of dollars to the U.S. economy and cost thousands of Americans their jobs.

#WeRemember

On Friday I had the honour of meeting Holocaust survivor David Moskovic. His beloved granddaughter Hannah spoke about how her grandfather, her Zaida, despite living through the unimaginable, is a beacon of hope. I found her words so moving and relevant and I know you will too. Thank you to Jack Jedwab of the Association for Canadian Studies and Annette Wildgoose of the National Holocaust Monument Committee for Co-chairing such a meaningful event. And thank you to David and Hannah for allowing me to share their story. #weremember
