I can’t believe we’re two months away from 2027 and the easiest way to save something as a PDF is still to lie to your computer and tell it you’re about to print it.

Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead. You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement. I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible. But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier. Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want. Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well. So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it. If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

Certainly in the beginning you might think that money is the answer. After that, you might think that more time is the answer. After that, you might think, I simply need to care more for the physical vehicle, or I want to learn more. Then it's really just about acquiring skills, maybe they're productive skills, or maybe they're just for fun. And then, at some point, you have to sit in a room and be able to live with yourself. At the end of the day, you would want to be able to sit with yourself and not suffer. If you've checked some of those boxes I just described and you're still suffering, that says to me that something has been missed. Certainly I found myself, after checking a lot of those boxes, still suffering. It doesn't mean you have to go through that process in that order. In fact, it's much more helpful to dedicate part of your practice and your energies to viewing the psycho-emotional health as a foundation for everything else. And paying more attention to that from the very beginning. P.S. Compartmentalizing pain and rationalizing it sometimes works. But as I’ve said to a lot of my friends who will sometimes say, “I don’t want to deal with that. I don’t want to open up that Pandora’s Box,” I try to emphasize that, at least from my experience, no matter what, you *are* dealing with it. But you get to choose if you want to deal with it head-on in a proactive way. Or if you want to have these odd side effects leak out the edges, unbeknownst to you, subconsciously sabotaging you day to day.

Reasons the modern driver has become more fade-biased: 1. The toe is hotter than the heel. Players tend to hit it there. To further boost this effect, some OEMs have shifted the default CG towards the toe. This helps win what may be the most important metric for selling drivers: max session ballspeed in head-to-head simulator matchups. The tradeoff, of course, is that toe CG = fade. 2. Big shapes enable big MOI. Usually, we hear claims that MOI resists twisting on off-center hits, leading to more forgiving drivers. But big MOI also resists twisting around the hosel. In other words, it has become harder to close the face. 3. The infrastructure for loft adapters has added rigidity to the heel side of the face. Dispersion trends away from rigidity. I've linked a few prior posts below that explain further:
I agree with Bryson I don’t think the modern driver is easy to draw. If you naturally draw the ball then go for it. If you don’t I think you should just hit a fade. I can’t turn my driver over without flipping it. If I need to draw it I hit 3 wood.

Shoutout to the folks who do that little awkward jog when a car stops to let them cross. You’re not actually going any faster, but the effort is adorable. I see you. I respect you.

That Quansan tackle is a perfect example of a reckless challenge with studs up. There's no analogy between that and Balogun unknowingly stepping on Muharemovic's ankle while trying to regain his footing after Muharemovic knocked him off balance with a challenge.

My 7-year-old daughter just now: why is he down on the ground? He only got tapped
I’m really trying to get into soccer because my kids like it but the embellishing injury thing is wild and needs to stop. Every three minutes you see a guy on the ground in seemingly the worst pain of his life only to stand up and continue to play 30 seconds later
