Our paper "Memory reactivation generates new, adaptive behaviours that reach beyond direct experience" is now out nature.com/articles/s41598-0… ! With @AnnieBRawson, Jill O’Reilly and @HelenCBarron at @MRCBNDU @NDCNOxford 1/6
Ever wanted to explore the driving forces underlying inhibitory neuronal signalling? We did! So, for my MSc in @JosephRaimondo lab, we developed the all-optical approach ORCHID - all-Optical Reporting of CHloride Ion Driving force. Now out in @NatureComms nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
snRNAseq by Teresa Steyn, computational modelling by @EranShorer and @KiraDusterwald, and IHC by @AKraitzick. All with @UCT_HUB, @UCT_NI, @UCTIDM, and @UCTHealthSci. (6/7)
Huge thanks to @Abdelfattah_Lab, @ERSchreiter, and @rhodamine110 at @HHMIJanelia, and to @RichBur, Sarah Newey, and Colin Akerman at @PharmOxford for all of the help and support along the way! And to @MPrag for the photo of the beautiful orchid 📷 (7/7)
We use ORCHID to confirm the mechanisms that establish Cl- driving force, reveal novel differences between neurons and astrocytes under different network states (1), and make the first in vivo measurements of intact Cl- driving force in mouse cortical neurons (2). (4/7)
Amazing work by @gsgothard showing the developmental origins of the local inhibitory subnetworks of L2/3 pyramidal neurons. Give it a read!

Super excited to share that this preprint is now out, the result of my MSc, and the first all-optical reporter of ionic driving force!
We are excited to present ORCHID, a new tool for all-Optical Reporting of Chloride Ion Driving force. bit.ly/45P6est In the brain, inhibition is mediated by Cl- permeable receptors. ORCHID can therefore be used to quantify the driving force across inhibitory receptors.

Thrilled to announce the release of our new preprint. Here we show how fast synaptic inhibition adapts to the level of cortical activity and demonstrate why this could be an important feature of how cortical networks process information. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
I #choosethebluefish because our oceans are beautiful and so full of life and provide life to many. Thank you @MSCinAfrica for giving us a way to support sustainable seafood by looking for the blue fish! With your help future generations will have pristine oceans @WavescapeSA
