'ગરબા રાસ', મધ્ય- યુગીન ગુજરાતમાં:
મધ્ય યુગમાં, વૈષ્ણવ સંપ્રદાયમાં શ્રી કૃષ્ણની પૂજા કરવા માટે 'ગરબા રાસ' નૃત્ય કરવામાં આવતું હતું. નાગર કવિ નરશી મહેતાએ આવા ત્રણ ગરબા રાસ ગુજરાતીમાં લખ્યા છે.
મધ્ય યુગથી ગુજરાતમાં શક્તિ સંપ્રદાયમાં દેવી-દેવતાઓની આરાધના માટે 'ગરબા રાસ' શરૂ થયો. 17મી સદીની શરૂઆતમાં ભાણદાસેગુજરાતીમાં 71 ગરબા ગીતો લખ્યા હતા. 1722 ની આસપાસ જૂનાગઢના વડનગરા નાગર નાથભવન ઘોડા ઉર્ફે અનુભવાનંદે 'અંબાજી નો ગરબો' લખ્યું હતું.
દેવી અંબાની પ્રખ્યાત ગુજરાતી આરતી 'જય આધ્યા શક્તિ મા...' સુરતના નાગર કવિ શિવાનંદ વામદેવ પંડ્યાએ 16મી સદીમાં લખી હતી.
