She was born without arms in a small village in Kishtwar. Tomorrow she goes to the Asian Para Games as the world's number one archer. Her name is Sheetal Devi. She was born in 2007 in Loidhar village in Jammu and Kashmir, with a rare condition called phocomelia. No arms. As a child she climbed trees using her legs. In 2020, a Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian Army noticed her during a local outreach programme. They helped with her schooling and medical care and got her into a sports complex run by the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Her coaches, Abhilasha Chaudhary and Kuldeep Baidwan, had never trained an archer without arms. They studied Matt Stutzman, an American archer born without arms, and built her training from there. She draws the bow with her leg and shoots with her feet. In 2023, she won two golds and a silver at the Asian Para Games. At the Paris Paralympics in 2024, she won bronze with Rakesh Kumar. In September 2025, she became world champion. This September, she and Rakesh set a world record in mixed team qualification. The Asian Para Games start tomorrow in Japan. She goes in ranked number one in the world.
