Delighted to be taking part in @CopernicusEU @FRM4SOC training on above water radiometry. Most excited about @NASA HyperCP community processor and how we can apply our @MarineInst Celtic Explorer hyperspectral data to this. Looking forward to joining in person in Venice soon☀️
Copernicus FRM4SOC-2024 training on In situ Ocean Colour Above-Water Radiometry towards Satellite Validation will kick off on Monday 6 May at CNR-ISMAR in Venice and nearby Acqua Alta Oceanographic Tower (AAOT) in the Adriatic Sea. frm4soc2.eumetsat.int/post/c…

🛰️NASA’s Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) satellite launched into orbit on the 8th of February. It has hyperspectral sensors that will improve the discrimination of phytoplankton from space. Scientists are ready to dive into the data: How PACE measurements of ocean color will help study fisheries, identify harmful algal blooms, and monitor the health of ocean ecosystems in a changing climate. The Marine Institute has been collaborating with NOAA since the early 2000’s. We are currently collaborating with Michelle and their satellite team and excited to continue this working relationship with the addition of the newest ocean colour satellite PACE. @noaacoastalsci @NASAOcean 📹youtube.com/watch?v=s8Mdphxq…

Delighted to watch the launch of @NASAOcean PACE satellite this morning from Ireland at 6:30am with my 3 year old. Unbelievable to see the hard work of so many amazing scientists finally in orbit. Looking forward to seeing some data 🛰️🌊🌍
We have liftoff 🚀 Our PACE spacecraft is on its way to study microscopic organisms in our ocean and particles in the air.

Finally got down to see the large Fin whale on my local Ross beach in Killala Co. Mayo. Incredible to get to see one of the second largest mammals on earth in person but also sad to see this was her end. If going to see her, stay well back incase that stomach explodes 🐋

Incredibly beautiful shapes among the winter phytoplankton in my sample collected off Plymouth, UK; they are like jewels. These single 'solar' cells begin the marine food chain. Watch a dinoflagellate get eaten by a copepod. @zeiss_micro

I've had two unpaid maternity leaves, one during and one after my PhD, all because I had no PRSI entitlements during my PhD and for two years after, even though I was in full time employment at that stage and had paid years of PRSI before my PhD.
From January, I will increase PhD stipends

PhD researchers are the backbone of Irish research. The outputs of research feeds into everything- new technology to curing diseases. We shouldn't be discriminated against for choosing to have our children during or after our PhDs. Very disappointed for all PhDs after this budget

An increase of 3K for 30% of funded researchers is not good enough. PhD researchers need basic rights alongside a livable salary @SimonHarrisTD @pwo_ug @LeoVaradkar @MichealMartinTD @conwaywalsh @daracalleary @FineGael @fiannafailparty @sinnfeinireland
