Again a great, smooth EoY overview from @Spotify with some fun poking from @puddingviz showing again AI on top of music is fun!

Twitter review of a pre-print article which discusses signals that gigantic models can generate a new language
Alright, fine: it's getting enough traction that I think I need to address this paper as a certified Grumpy Linguist in NLP.
(I generally try to avoid peer reviewing students in public but at this point it's definitely *already* very public, so 🤷♀️.)

In a guest post for @StackOverflow, I take my first stab at writing for a practitioner audience to argue out that "Ethical AI" too often focuses on *how a system is built* rather than *what the system is used for*.

(small thread about a change in our recommendation infra)
At Blendle (and thus Cafeyn) we are really close to switching to a GRPC-based recommendation service 🎉Our current/previous setup was to prepare recommendations and store them in a DB, allowing backend to fetch them./1
It also eases the effort from backend as they only have one way of getting recommendations, whether these are for homepage blocks, recommendations below an article, or in newsletters./3

Yes 🎉 the new vacancy is official, we are hiring a Data Scientist into @BlendleNL and @cafeyn_fr! Focus on NLP, experimentation and content recommendation

Yes, please help us poor Data Scientists working with large scale pre-trained models in production 😇.
And help @BlendleNL (and the rest of the @cafeyn_fr group) towards a "context-based realtime recommender system".
Time to extend the team!
To advance us into the state of the art for NLP for (journalistic) article understanding we are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer.
Experience in productionizing transformer models? Passionate for recommender systems?

Intuitive and very readable pattern matching coming in Python 3.10
For folks trying to get their head around PEP 634 (pattern matching), which will land in the next alpha release of 3.10, here's a brief tutorial I wrote: (more concise than the introduction in PEP 636): github.com/gvanrossum/patma/…
