The dance of federal hiring: We at @USOPM have heard that some hiring managers feel obligated to make job offers at "Step 1," the lowest comp level for a particular job grade (or "GS" level), even when the candidate's skills merit a higher Step. Then, the hiring manager instructs the candidate to reject that initial offer, after which they will make a new offer at the appropriate Step. We don't think that is an efficient hiring process - for agencies or for candidates. So today we issued guidance to effect a final curtain call on this dance!

"Go ahead and say it wasn't about Sam Darnold... But it was. In the postseason against the superior NFC and eventually Vrabel's defense: No turnovers for Sam." @colincowherd reacts to the Seahawks dominant Super Bowl win over the Patriots

NEW 49ers playoff path UPDATE after the Niners loss to the Seahawks. If the Rams beat the Cardinals tomorrow; the 49ers will be the 6-seed. If the Rams lose, the Niners will be the 5-seed. If the Eagles win and Bears lose tomorrow; the Eagles get their teeth kicked 2-seed and the Bears drop to 3. If the Bears win, they’ll be a be the 2-seed and Eagles will be the 3-seed. Even though the Bucs beat the Panthers today, if the Falcons win tomorrow, Carolina is in as the NFC South champ. So the 49ers will either go on the road to play the Bears, Eagles, Panthers or Buccaneers. #49ers

Help desk is the best entry point into tech and everyone treats it like it’s beneath them. You’re making $40K-$50K while learning Active Directory, ticketing systems, and how corporate IT actually works. Do it for 18 months then pivot to anything. It’s paid training.

Don't choose the wrong certifications Network+ is for understanding networking concepts but also a prerequisite for cybersecurity, earn the knowledge but the cert is most preferred for Network professionals CySA+ is for cybersecurity analysis and threat response. Cybersecurity Analyst can go for this. Pentest+ and CEH focus on ethical hacking, rather then general cybersecurity knowledge eJPT is an entry-level cert for penetration testing PNPT is a hands-on certification still for pentesting, fully practical OSCP is a highly highly advanced certification for penetration testing CISSP is for experienced pros focusing on security principles and how to manage them CISM is for managing and leading information security teams CASP+ is for advanced experts securing enterprise systems GSEC covers the basics of security, both defense and attacks CHFI is all about computer forensics and cybercrime investigations CGRC is a certificate for GRC professionals, can be written by anyone interested before hitting the bigger certificates. CRISC focuses on risk management and how to control it in IT systems AWS Certified Security – Specialty is for securing cloud systems CompTIA A+ is best for those going into IT profession or anything related to computers Security+ is a foundational certification for cybersecurity and best for Security professionals Any cloud certification you choose to write should be either for Azure, Google or Microsoft depending on your preferences. Make the best decision for your success Add your certificate in the comment, let newbies learn the difference.
