Buy the ticket...take the ride. Michael Douglas' memoir is the #1 non-fiction book in the world.
A relaxed former President Andrew Shepherd sits down with former Chief White House Correspondent @BWilliams on the occasion of his book "One Helluva Ride". Actually it's legend Michael Douglas and this is one of the tamer stories from the Hollywood star. Tomorrow on "We're Back! With Brian Williams" you can hear the rest, only on @netflix

Read this letter by @nickbilton. Strong hire to helm @60Minutes. 💪
It's the honor of my career to become the executive producer of 60 Minutes. I just shared the note below with the incredible staff and can't wait to get started.

If you're looking for a great election viewing experience, I recommend watching Brian Williams tonight live on Amazon. Here are three reasons why: 1. It's New (but Also Familiar) It's exceedingly rare in the world of election coverage to have a new player in the game. With Fox, CNN, and others, you know what to expect. With Amazon investing in election coverage for the first time, it will be a completely new experience. That alone is worth tuning in for. It's also 100% free to watch on Amazon Prime. 2. It's Not Bound to Ratings or Advertisers This is pretty unique. Most major networks generate tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue during election cycles. Amazon is unbound by this. In theory, this allows them to have zero editorial spin one way or the other. It means they can serve the news straight up, without having to worry about alienating an existing viewer base - because they don't even know who their viewers are yet. 3. It's a Strong Team Brian Williams has been covering US elections for decades. Poppy Harlow is an incredible anchor in her own right. I've filed for her shows and she has always been thoughtful, caring, and has a great knack for getting to the human element in every story. Beyond her, the team producing the special event is strong. @jonathanwald and @JohnFerracane are veteran newsroom leaders who know how to make compelling television. Election night coverage is among the hardest coverage to produce. There are literally dozens of moving parts that need to be balanced and the stakes are incredibly high. The team behind the broadcast has the track record to make it happen at a high level. Overall, despite the planning that has already gone into it, the Amazon broadcast might feel very much like an experiment. And that's pretty cool. In a time where media can feel more partisan than ever, having a steady veteran hand bringing us a different kind of coverage - calm, steady, and empathic - is worth celebrating. In a different world, I'd have loved to report live for Brian from overseas during the show. But who knows, maybe Amazon will use the opportunity to invest in more news programming, which would be even more exciting.

Some advice for students: If an organization of which you are a member puts out a public statement you disagree with, you have a few choices. You can: Stay silent and have the entire world conclude that you stand by the statement. Convince the other members of the group to withdraw or otherwise modify the statement so that it can reflect the views of all members. Or you can resign in protest. Claiming that you had no involvement or knowledge of the statement, but remaining a member of the organization without it withdrawing the statement is perhaps the worst of the alternatives, as it appears to simply be an attempt to avoid accountability while continuing to be a member of the organization. If you were managing a business, would you hire someone who blamed the despicable violent acts of a terrorist group on the victims? I don’t think so. Would you hire someone who was a member of a school club who issued a statement blaming lynchings by the KKK on their victims? I don’t think so. Would you want them to be an associate at your law firm? Of course not. It is not harassment to seek to understand the character of the candidates that you are considering for employment. In fact, as CEO, it is your obligation to do so on behalf of all of the other employees in your company, the clients and customers it serves, and all of your other stakeholders. I have heard that the above inquiry has made some members of the groups which put out the statement feel ‘unsafe,’ a word that is sadly overused in universities today. Ask yourself how unsafe it would feel in Israel beginning Saturday early morning and how unsafe it feels now? Ask yourself how unsafe your Jewish classmates feel when 32 clubs published a statement assigning sole responsibility for the heinous, deathly acts of terrorists to Israel and the Jews? Experience is making mistakes and learning from them. If you have made a mistake, acknowledge it, and immediately correct your mistaken actions. Public statements made by organizations of which you are a member can have a material negative impact on your reputation. I have learned from experience that the best time to fix a mistake is now.

RIP ABC’s Dick Wald. Smart, sharp, principled guy. I went 2 for 3 getting op-eds past him as an ABC reporter and I forgive him for nixing that one on Clinton WH's executive privilege claim against the Smaltz/HUD independent counsel politi.co/3Mk3lWw

Richard Wald's story about taking Barbara Walters to see "Deep Throat" (she was curious but didn't want to go alone) was so hilarious that we drew disapproving stares at the Century Club when I interviewed him last fall for my BW bio. A giant in journalism; a wonderful guy. RIP.
Richard Wald, a respected television executive who served as president of NBC News in the 1970s, helped steer coverage at ABC News for decades and taught media industry practices at Columbia Journalism School, has died at age 92. nbcnews.to/39nPJex
