🙋🏿‍♂️I have a bunch! First, somewhat controversial: Imposter syndrome isn't real! The feeling is very real, but if we think of it as imposter syndrome then it seems like the problem is with the person feeling it, and not with the environment. Imposter syndrome is lack of safety.

Today was my first day back with students & my first day implementing strategies I lived by this summer with @UpperlineCode. Can I tell you, today was my best first day of teaching in my 11 years as a teacher. See thread for some strategies that made it great.

Four the past 4 years (2 of which I didn’t know to swim) I tried wake surfing and failed. But this year I finally did it!
To learn something new - you gotta be comfortable with being bad, before you get good.

My classroom isn’t perfect. Not every lesson is sensational. Not every kid is academically where they need to be. I am not “the model teacher.” But, every single kid knows they’re loved by me.

This is—and forever will be—a @shanavwhite stan account. I can’t believe @TwitterSupport banned one of the most prolific, brilliant, and valuable voices in education. The lesson here seems to be that racists can post whatever they want but folks of color must smile and play nice.

I miss snow days. This is a year we (students and teachers) really could have used them, and it’s just such a bummer that the ability to learn virtually means snow days are non-existent.

I showed my pronouns in my Zoom handle today (1st day of 2nd semester), mentioned my husband, and two students came out as nonbinary in their Zoom names by adding pronouns (I didn’t ask for pronouns), and a trans student was able to use their name rather than legal name. 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍🌈 – at Erie, PA

.@ruha9 on the fact that women were the first computers: you don't have to do anything special to get women in computer science, you just shouldn't have pushed them out in the first place! 🔥 #CSTA2020

I’ve been seeing a lot about “anti-racism burnout” lately... which... is a conversation I’m too angry & sad to have. But I’ve ALSO seen a lot of “fixed comfort” floating around. I’d encourage you all to look at the language you’re using to talk about the world today. We see you.
