The Best Advice for Overcoming a Rigged Job-Market. Here is a hard truth: most job applications today are never even read. By a human, at least. With the rise of easy-access platforms like Indeed, as well as an increasingly competitive job market, recruiters receive hundreds of applications for every position. For recruiters, there have to be ways to discriminate the best applicants without reading all of them, either through automated resume-readers or… Most of the time, that happens with the keyword: “connections”. The people’s who’s resumes actually get read are people who have already made contact with the company in advance. And this IS an actionable step. Rather than mass-spamming resumes, consider connecting with the people who will actually receive them! Cold-email! Cold-message on LinkedIN! Meetings, coffee-chats, or even simply online exchanges are the hidden step that gets applicants hired.
