Non-essential helicopter flights harm the environment, affect mental health, and damage quality of life for communities near the waterfront. Today I was joined by my colleagues to demand answers from the FAA and NPS on insufficient regulations around the NY and NJ coastlines.

Non-essential helicopter flights are way beyond a public nuisance–they are disrupting people’s ability to work, study, sleep, and simply live their lives. I’m grateful to @RepDanGoldman for advocating for the community and seeking solutions to this incessant noise-pollution.

Helicopter noise is like the weather — everyone complains about it, but no one fixes it. Today, @kduggan16 looks at utter failure on the local, state and federal level to @StoptheChopNYNJ! nyc.streetsblog.org/2022/12/…

@nytimes - this is not showing the whole picture! It’s not just rich people living near EH Airport affected by helicopters! All living between W. 30 & E. 34 th st heliports in Manhattan along entire flight path to Hamptons (& airports) r negatively affected! Including EJ areas!
Gorgeous day on Gov Island except for the literally constant helicopter noise. NYC’s inability to regulate obvious, large negative externalities that benefit few + harm many is so depressing.

@SusanSarandon Why are you collaborating with Blade to destroy the air and the peace in NYC? We’re plagued by incessant helicopter noise and their attempt to greenwash with a gala for the Hudson River park is a sham. @StoptheChopNYNJ

It’s astonishing, when it comes to helicopter noise in BK, that the convenience of a tiny few has been allowed for so long to inconvenience the vast majority. It’s truly spoiled Brooklyn Bridge Park.

@NYCMayor and @GovKathyHochul have a lot to learn from the town of East Hampton on how to protect their residents and prioritize interests of people vs corporations making money off of New Yorkers misery #banblade #banflynyon

Today I joined @RepMaloney at a press conference to discuss our Helicopter Safety and Noise Management Act. For decades, New Yorkers have been plagued by excess helicopter noise and have had their lives put in danger by non-essential flights.

Great pic, Gov, good going. Now, please end private aviation profiteering which is blanketing cherished national treasures in carbon emissions from tours over NYC, our Lady of Liberty, Ellis Island, etc. These icons mean more to us than to tourists--our history. @NYCEDC
Get in, New York, we're bringing greener, cleaner transit to cities across our state!

If noise pollution from transportation causes 5% of New Jersey heart attacks, I cannot imagine the rate in NYC.  Step 1: Let’s pass our bill with @DickGottfried curbing non-essential chopper use in NYC and #StopTheChop! @StoptheChopNYNJ
New study from Rutgers Medical School concludes that noise pollution from transportation causes 5% of New Jersey heart attacks. "[The lead author] said other dense urban areas would likely see a similar pattern." fox5ny.com/news/1-in-20-new-…

Helicopters are a blight on our great city. The amount of economic activity they generate is a nothing when compared with the misery they impose. They need to be banned with the exception of emergency services. #StopTheChop
