Devastated to hear Steve Silberman has passed away. He was a brilliant writer, and had a huge heart. His book Neurotribes was an incredible contribution to the field of neurodiversity and a legacy for autistic people. My deepest condolences to his husband. I will miss him

I’m heartbroken to hear about the death of Steve Silberman. He had such a positive impact on the public perception of autism and was always so kind and supportive of me and my work. Just an all-around wonderful human being. I’ll miss him dearly.

Rest in peace to astonishing author, activist, and cherished member of the Grateful Dead family, Steve Silberman. “When I started working for the Grateful Dead in 1999, Steve Silberman was around a lot, working on the So Many Roads boxed set throughout the summer. He was so kind, warm, and welcoming to me every time we saw each other. He was genuinely respectful. One of the brightest lights I’ve met over the past 25 years. His intelligence and generosity were unmatched. Steve, you will be missed by so many. Everyone who met you or corresponded with you loves you.” - David Lemieux Photos via Steve Silberman, Susana Millman, and Marc Geller

Cutting gaskets with a CNC is considerably easier than using a razor blade. Guessing at settings worked out fine for a first attempt.

Well received #GAPsych22 poster led by @AutisticDoctor Open disclosure of autistic psychiatrists is rare, particular barriers may be faced but there’s potential to reframe understanding of autism & improve healthcare outcomes #Autism #NeurodiversityInMedicine @APApsychiatric

This car came in to our shop with a dead convertible top. The controller failed and couldn’t be replaced. I began reverse engineering it and working on a new design to replace it. Six months, four iterations, and many solved hardware gremlins later and it’s finally going home.

Milwaukee Road "Little Joes" and boxcabs at the engine terminal in Avery, Idaho; September, 1970. The small town was located at the western end of the railroad's eastern segment of its Pacific Extension electrification. There was a small yard and maintenance facility located here, as well as substation #14. After the line was abandoned, the Potlatch Corporation, a wood products company, found some of the Milwaukee's lines in northern Idaho useful for its timber and logging operations. In all, it purchased the main line between Plummer Junction and Avery, 64 miles, as well as most of the Elk River Branch between St. Maries and Bovill, 52 miles. It chartered the St. Maries River Railroad which began operations on May 23, 1980, moving raw logs from Avery and Bovill, to the Regelus Mill near St. Maries. The U.S. Forest Service condemned the right-of-way between St. Maries and Avery in 1986, 45 miles, to build what is today the St. Joe River Road Highway. Today, the Milwaukee Road's depot in Avery is preserved. american-rails.com/smta.html
