Sen. Schiff says a suspicious substance was mailed to his office
U.S. Capitol Police and the Sergeant at Arms confirmed they intercepted at least one envelope with a suspicious substance mailed to my California offices, fitting a disturbing pattern of lawmakers being targeted across party and geography. This attempt to intimidate elected officials and our staff will not succeed. We instead condemn these threats as antithetical to the values of our nation, recommit to our work and thank the law enforcement and postal officials who are helping keep our teams safe.

The photojournalism coming out of Paris is astounding. As a reporter who has often stood *behind* photographers in tough circumstances, they are the bravest of the brave. What a picture

"It’s an outrageous misuse of antitrust law. Antitrust is meant to protect consumers. Well, news consumers are undoubtedly more harmed by Trump’s war on the press than by this show of solidarity by news outlets in defense of the First Amendment. As for the government’s demand for copies of the networks’ communications, the outlets should tell the Justice Department to kick rocks." –Clayton Weimers, executive director, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) North America, responding to the new DOJ probe of the major networks

Rogue AI agents seem to be getting in all kinds of mischief, including crimes like this false homicide report
"The Philadelphia Police Department said earlier on Friday that it had been notified by Anthropic that its technology had submitted a false homicide tip to the agency’s website. The tip was dated July 18 and claimed that the submitter had information about an unsolved case, the department said." nytimes.com/2026/10/09/techn…
