Shame on Big Tech for their lies, but double shame on the Indiana public regulator –– with the duty to protect the public –– for signing secret, sweetheart deals for Big Tech and paid for by ordinary customers.
Today, the IURC approved a deal between AES Indiana and a Google data center with secret terms and secret, discounted rates. It will shift $74 million in transmission network upgrades onto all AES Indiana customers -- directly contradicting the Ratepayer Protection Pledge.

Publicly owned utilities pay back more to their communities than for-profit ones. Learn more about #PublicPower from ILSR's podcast series about communities trying to go public: vist.ly/5meig

And people still wonder why communities are concerned about data center water use?
The average household water bill has gone up about 62% over the last ten years. And when your water is privately owned, it's even worse. The typical family whose water is privately owned pays almost twice as much as a family who has a public water supply, per @foodandwater.

Gas stoves kept pumping out pollution even when turned off: About a third of fossil-fueled kitchens produced NO2 levels outside of business hours that exceeded health standards. The culprit was pilot lights.

Rising electricity demand is driving up prices. Faster solar #interconnection = more affordable power, sooner. States that cut red tape now help their residents save before the final #solartaxcredit deadline. #GridUnlocked gridunlocked.org

One of the best news stories of 2026
After a federal judge ruled that EPA's killing of the $7B Solar for All program was illegal, nonprofits and companies are ready to relaunch solar projects to help low-income residentsβ€”if the Trump administration obeys aΒ court order to give them theΒ money: canarymedia.com/articles/pol…

Still one of the best "make you think" ads of all time
Remember this ad from Nissan about using electric vehicles, and how silly it'd be if we powered our computers on liquid fuels. Silly, right? Except, some data centers are being powered by diesel power plants. I've not seen much discussion around fuel for compute vs other uses.

For-profit utilities cost more, clearly shown in this state-issued analysis of privatizing Santee Cooper in S.C. So when investor-owned utilities claim that it's expensive to switch to public power, they're lying.

I love hearing these stories of using AI agents to get through the barriers that companies have erected to prevent us from getting help: nytimes.com/2026/09/22/techn…. (until websites block the agents)

Funny how the Supreme Court is so obsessed with the President's ability to fire agency heads and so little with his oath of office to "faithfully execute" his role to implement laws passed by Congress.
"Under the Trump administration, the EPA has stopped estimating the public health benefits of reducing pollution in the cost-benefit analyses necessary for clean-air regulations. Instead, the agency has estimated only the costs to businesses of complying with the rules." Translation: Public health benefits get zero weight in any cost-benefit analysis under the Trump administration. So long as the coal industry stands to profit from planet-warming pollution, then they have the right to pollute with impunity. This is your government on libertarianism.

BREAKING: Rep. Thomas Massie has introduced articles of impeachment against Pete Hegseth. Massie alleges that Hegseth has waged the war against Iran illegally, among other "high crimes and misdemeanors." He is also asserting that Hegseth initiated the conflict unlawfully, defied Congress' order to withdraw from the conflict, and incurred unnecessary civilian casualties.

There is literally no better way to make sure Americans seek out and watch the Kimmel-Talarico interview. It's helpful when the authoritarian in charge is this dumb.

Are city-owned utilities the answer to out-of-control for-profit monopolies? I was delighted to join Bryan Lee on the Energy Markets Podcast to wrestle with this question on either end of a broad conversation about the corruption in the utility industry. vist.ly/5httk

Wish I'd had this option when Centerpoint did my line in Minneapolis two years ago... Instead of forcing gas customers to pay for distribution line replacements, offer them the same amount of money to swap our their polluting gas appliances. vist.ly/5h74u
