Somehow, in certain quarters, it has come to be seen as a personal failing to devote one’s life to improving the world around you. It isn’t “downwardly mobile” to choose, after college, to be a teacher, a city councilor or an artist. It’s just a different kind of ambition.
Great article about the DSA newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

From what I have seen, the Abdul El-Sayed and Tommy clip has gotten over 50 million views across Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. It might be the most viral clip we have of the 2026 midterms.

He says the name just fine when he’s begging the Qataris for a personal jet or the Saudis for funding for his son-in-law’s private equity firm.
Wonder what’s changed?

Raising revenue and using our dollars effectively aren't mutually exclusive things - in fact, we need both.
We've seen over a decade of mismanaged contracts and patronage by the Bowser admin, and I'm looking forward to working with our new mayor on where we can save costs.

New: The Commanders and the city have pledged the new RFK stadium will be "the most sustainable" football facility in the country...but early plans to have natural gas included as part of the project are raising alarms.
It'd violate a key climate law if it moves ahead:

I heard y’all loud and clear: We’ve got to do something about the rats!
My team and I are preparing to tackle this problem head-on, because we deserve safe and clean streets.
I support RCV but this is a v dumb way to do it for multiple seats & voters definitely didn't know this when they passed 83. Council should amend to single transferable vote like Portland, OR so the majority in this city who are registered Dems have a real say in at large races
The "pick-two" era of D.C. Council at-large races is officially over.
Under ranked-choice voting, does your second vote count? If your #1 choice wins outright, it doesn't.

Its all pretty confusing for folks not super plugged into voting methods but this video was a cute and helpful way to understand how Portland OR does it / an example of how we could do this better while maintaining RCV: youtube.com/watch?v=Itywbxaf…

I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it.
I’ll take @ellalangleymsic over Kacey Musgraves any day.
And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico.

Council needs to reform this process, so future candidates cant weponize OCF.
Thank goodness @Janeese4DC won.
NEWS: The D.C. Board of Elections just tossed out a $16,000 fine levied by the Office of Campaign Finance in June against @Janeese4DC over allegations that her mayoral campaign impermissibly coordinated with unions. The board said there was no evidence of coordination.

Today, the DC Council voted to make it easier for residents to access utility affordability programs. We should not make people prove their hardship over and over again before they can get help.

For the DC Week Without Driving, @Janeese4DC joined @ggwash organizers (and @tweetelissa) for a bus ride from Petworth to downtown.
JLG emphasized her desire to get projects like the Georgia Ave dedicated lane done quickly: “We don’t need to study the study, let’s get it done.”
