1/ The safety of children in Glasgow must be the priority. A recent official report identifies serious failures by Glasgow City Council and others.
There must be independent scrutiny of this. I have written to the Scottish Government to call for a Public Inquiry.
A busy day in Glasgow East with surgeries with local residents, time in the Calton following up on cleansing issues, and discussions about community safety.
Spot on @michaeljmarra
Under Andy's social care proposals:
🌹Pensions will continue to go up and keep up with prices in the shops.
🏴 Significant extra funding will come to the Scottish Government as a direct result.
I was pleased to attend this event with many of my colleagues. This @UKLabour Government is determined to work, with international allies, to secure a two-state solution that supports a safe and secure Israel, living alongside a safe and secure Palestine.

From today VAT has been cut from your electricity bill💡⚡️
A UK Labour government delivering for Scotland.
I am very concerned about the impact that proposed redundancies at Greggs’ Clydesmill site may have on my constituents here in Glasgow East.
I have written to Greggs along with @mgshanks to express my concerns and ask for clarity on these proposals.
Fighting child poverty is the historic mission of @UKLabour and this UK Government is lifting hundreds of thousands of kids out of poverty by removing the two child-limit 👇

Thank you to everyone who joined our LFPME reception.
A historic moment with a Labour Government leading with values in action, and recognising those who have campaigned for peace, justice and freedom for Palestine. 🇬🇧🤝🇵🇸

From today, VAT is removed from household electricity bills, keeping the energy price cap around £45 a year lower than it would have been.
Helping families keep more money in their pockets and give some breathing space.

Last week I popped into La Vita Barrachnie to deliver a letter of congratulations after they won Scotland’s best takeaway restaurant at the Just Eat Awards.
Congratulations again!
🏴 Did you know that the site of Scotland’s first national football ground is in the Glasgow East constituency?
I have written to City Property (Glasgow) to express my support for the work that the First Hampden CIC are doing to preserve the site.

More evidence of UK economy’s strong first half to the year - despite the very real impact of the Iran war:
- @ONS have revised up growth (and gdp/capita growth) in Q2 to 0.5%
- confirms the UK as the fastest growing economy in the G7 in 2026 (given growth of 0.6% in Q1)

What does Labour conference mean for Scotland? Action on bills, good jobs, and investment in shipbuilding and our energy grid. Here’s my two-minute roundup 👇

The Conservative Party debated for a couple of hours and decided that no, they are not a serious party. Inevitably.
Andy Burnham wants to scrap the triple lock.

Labour are not cutting pensions, they are reforming the triple lock. Pensions will still rise every year, either at 2.5% or in line with inflation. Whichever is higher. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Spot on from my pal @Torcuil
A brilliant speech from @andyburnham setting out a new brighter direction for our family of nations.
Setting out a hope we can all share from Shetland to Cornwall.
The Conservative Government cruelly axed the Union Learning Fund.
I am delighted that our Chancellor, John Healey, has restored it to support union-led projects that connect workers with training opportunities, with £15 million of funding per year available from 2027-2028.
