Oops. OCC commissions bus report - which then says a whole bunch of things OCC pretends aren't true. LTNs and 20mph speed limits slow down buses. The partnership between OCC and the bus companies is mutually enforceable (i.e. OCC have opened themselves up to legal liability).

Utter contempt. You fail to support the Ice Rink and now you want to fuck up the football. Despicable man. @AndrewGant3
Cllr Andrew Gant — who’s backed the closure of countless roads across East Oxford — is now objecting to the stadium over a temporary 35-minute diversion… near his own home. The hypocrisy writes itself #oufc

The hypocrisy. Lib Dem Cllr Gant as highways cabinet member has imposed more road blocks and anti-motorist measures on Oxfordshire drivers than anyone before him. Now his residents might be impacted he suddenly cares about drivers. On your bike Cllr ArroGant. #GantsGridlock #OUFC
It's happened again! Road closer in chief Gant opposes #OUFC's new stadium proposals due to very occasional and time limited....road closures! The hypocrisy is astounding! Has Gabt supported anything that'll actually be good for the ordinary folk in Oxfordshire?

One of the most surprising aspects of this story is not Ms Plummer's appointment ("group think" is common among the great and the good of Oxford). Rather, it's that doesn't appear to have occurred to @OxfordshireCC that a big chunk of Oxford's traffic is caused by its hospitals.
Great to see this issue being highlighted in The Telegraph by one of our ex OM alumni @AlbertTait1 It was never going to bode well for the employees when decisions were being led by Extinction Rebellion ideology rather than sense. digitaleditions.telegraph.co…

One of our data elves has reviewed typical congestion levels on St Cross Road in Oxford, one of the planned £5 congestion checkpoints. Rather than showing yet another video of an empty road during morning rush hour, here's the bigger picture, courtesy of Google's congestion map.

A restrictive & regressive car-free development reminiscent of 1970s communist urban planning, limiting residents' access & choice to work, amenities, and services. Anti-car zealots seem to ignore the historical failures of such restrictive policies in past communist societies.

Our tax is being used to pay a member of Extinction Rebellion who once glued her t**s to the road to tell Oxford hospital staff how they're allowed to travel to work (at a time when the NHS is finding it hard to recruit).

So someone with what the council would usually call 'lived experience', but in this case they'll call 'anti-council rhetoric' says Oxford's city centre isn't quite as healthy as OCC would have us believe. thisisoxfordshire.co.uk/news…

Oxford traffic levels fall dramatically during non-term time holidays/half terms & have done for decades. There is no justification for @AndrewGant3 @neilfawcett @LibDemsOxon £5 Con Charge. @LabLinda75 @MarkLygo @AnnelieseDodds @maryoxford @cllrsusanbrown @esme_kenney @BBCOxford
A few cars queuing at a traffic light during the hight of the morning rush hour - on one of Oxford's main through roads - isn't a congestion emergency. Hythe Bridge Street, this morning, 8.10-ish, near the site of one of OCC's six planned congestion charge £5 ANPR checkpoints.

@AndrewGant3 @neilfawcett are happy to ripoff @Oxford_Labour voting Oxford residents with the Con Charge, but not @LibDemsOxon controlled Abingdon. Wonder why? @MarkLygo @AnnelieseDodds @maryoxford @cllrsusanbrown @LubzStaProperty @LabLinda75 @lukeakehurst @esme_kenney @BBCOxford
Let's compare average daily traffic counts on specific main roads in Oxford (pop. 162,100) that are about to get a congestion charge on them, and similar roads in Abingdon (pop. 37,931) - which aren't). Who'd have thunk it? The counts are almost the same! Paging @neilfawcett

Missing in action - a "congestion emergency"in St Clement’s, 7.50am, at one of the proposed congestion charge site. Oxford's state schools are still in for a couple of weeks. Most private schools are on holiday until early September.

Nobody we've spoken to thinks the Congestion Charge is a good idea. The council needs to know just how unpopular it is and the best way to tell them is by filling in their consultation. It takes five minutes. letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk/…

So a handful of unelected anti-car activists & private bus/taxi firms, set to profit 💰 from an Oxford City Centre road monopoly, outweigh the tens of thousands of us residents, businesses & workers facing Con Charge gridlock & misery in the suburbs & on the ring road #ConCharge

The Aberdeen bus gate legal challenge is interesting in relation to the "prioritise the interests of bus companies ahead of everyone else" issue. Eyes on for the court hearing in the autumn.
