The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

Does evangelical faith inevitably lead to nationalism, authoritarianism, and the political right? The American story may suggest so. Sweden’s Christian voters tell a very different story joelhalldorf.substack.com/p/…

In 1998, 38% of regular churchgoers in Sweden supported the Christian Democrats. By 2023 that figure had fallen to 8%. As the party moved right, many Christian voters moved left. Why Sweden’s evangelicals took a different path from their US counterparts joelhalldorf.substack.com/p/…

"Today, communal reading offers an example of how print and digital media can work in tandem to renew reading." Joel Halldorf Argues that Reading Was in Decline Well Before the Smartphone—But There’s Still a Way to Fix That lithub.com/did-smartphones-r… | @lithub

Ratta in rätt poddkanal och lyssna.

We need to rediscover books not only as containers of information, but tools for contemplation. The point of reading is not to extract information as efficiently as possible. The greatest gift books offer our time is that they cultivate attention and create space for reflection.

“I came without a speech, because I’m hungry. “I’m hungry for justice, hungry for authentic charity, hungry for a Church that truly knows how to open the doors, welcome, receive everyone, where there is love for all and where no one is an enemy.” — Pope Leo XIV at lunch with 200 migrants, refugees, and homeless persons.

“In the monastery, every activity was oriented toward communion with God. This infused all aspects of life –prayers, of course, but meals, work, sleep, and conversations as well. Books and education were no exception.” “Reading Matters” at Literary Hub: lithub.com/writing-as-spirit…
