Following the Covid Inquiry's damning verdict on @MattHancock, we've launched a petition to remove him from the Privy Council.
His actions led to thousands of avoidable deaths.
This is a first symbolic step towards accountability.

🔴 This is extraordinary.
Chancellor @JohnHealey_MP says that if Britain had invested its North Sea oil and gas revenues like Norway did, we could now have a sovereign wealth fund worth around £1 TRILLION.
Norway turned its energy inheritance into national wealth for future generations.
Britain privatised major energy assets, treated North Sea tax revenues as current income, and used the windfall to fund mass deindustrialisation, unemployment and redundancy costs.
In 1984–85 alone, North Sea revenues were about £12bn. We had the same geological fortune as Norway.
What differed was the political choice, Norway built a national asset and Britain spent the windfall and sold much of the inheritance.
Now we face huge public debt, fragile energy security and another geopolitical shock.
For long-term resilience, a country has strategic natural assets, the state has to think beyond the next Budget.
Food security. Energy security. National wealth.
All are about planning for the future rather than assuming tomorrow will look like today.
‘We'd have a British sovereign wealth fund now that will be worth probably a trillion pounds’
Chancellor @JohnHealey_MP suggests what Britain could have gained if it had set up an energy wealth fund like Norway’s back in the 1980s

ALT Graphic with quote from Feargal Sharkey that says "“Thames Water is due to run out of money (again) over the next few weeks. A year and half ago, it was given a £3 billion bailout. Now it is asking for another 2.4 billion. We really are being taken for mugs”, with additional text saying "6 days to get Andy Burnham to block the bailout: Sign the petition"

"Anglian Water fined £1.6M for polluting River Brain in Essex."
Over the last 15 years Anglian Water has been found guilty of 79 different environmental offences and already paid almost £5 million in fines. Has any of it made any difference whatsoever? Of course not.
Perhaps later this morning the @CommonsEFRA would like to ask the polluters why.

📊 The 2016 Brexit electorate no longer exists.
Peter Kellner has updated the sums using YouGov and ONS data.
Since 2016:
🔹 Around 3.8m Leave voters have died, against 2.1m Remain voters.
🔹 Around 7m new voters have reached voting age, overwhelmingly pro-European.
🔹 Around 5m voters have changed their minds 👉roughly three-quarters of them moving from Leave to Rejoin.
His estimate of how Britain would vote now:
🇪🇺 REJOIN: 20.0m 👉 63%
🇬🇧 STAY OUT: 11.8m 👉 37%
A majority of almost 9 million.
Brexit happened. Britain has lived with it for a decade.
But democracy does not freeze the electorate in 2016 forever.
The question is what Britain wants now not what it indicated in 2016.
📊 The Brexit majority hasn’t just slipped 👉it’s vanished. Completely.
This chart from Peter Kellner/YouGov shows:
• 5 million 2016 voters have died
• New young voters back Rejoin by 5:1
• 29% of Leave voters now want to rejoin
• Net result: Rejoin 19.8m vs Stay Out 11.7m
➡️ An 8 MILLION majority for Rejoin.
Britain is now a pro-EU country.
The only people keeping Brexit alive are politicians who benefit from the damage.

This STUPID referendum was $125,000,000
That’s:
🚑 415 fully equipped ground ambulances
✈️ 14 specialized medevac aircraft
🚒 52 urban pumper fire trucks
🏥 5 to 8 brand-new rural health care centres
Albertans literally got NOTHING of benefit
What a damn waste.

"Burnham urges officials to come up with more radical options for Thames Water."
Well done Andy Burnham @andyburnham
There are ultimately just two answers to Thames Water, put the company into Special Administration and restructure - refinance it or give in to the demands of the New York vulture capitalists exposing tax payers and bill payers to yet more decades of exploitation.
The latter of course is unacceptable.

🇨🇦 Alberta has overwhelmingly rejected even starting the process towards separation from Canada 🇨🇦
Preliminary results show around 77% opposed holding an independence referendum, against 23% in favour.
Trump has repeatedly threatened Canada with becoming America’s 51st state, while Mark Carney has spent months arguing that Canadians are stronger confronting that pressure together rather than fragmented.
Carney, Bank of England governor during Brexit referendum, even warned Albertans that many Britons who supported leaving the EU subsequently regretted it.
He also addressed some of Alberta’s legitimate grievances: backing a new oil pipeline and changing federal environmental rules that had angered the province.
That seems to be the lesson. You don’t solve political frustration by breaking apart the larger structure that gives you economic and strategic strength.
At a moment when Trump is openly testing allies, Canadians appear to have recognised that fragmentation would make them weaker, not stronger.
🇬🇧 Britain needs to reflect on that.
Because the world is moving towards large economic and strategic blocs and sovereignty without scale can very quickly become dependence on somebody bigger.

We don’t need to raise taxes on the Banks.
We can stop paying them interest on their deposits - this £30 Billion a year drives their outrageous profit levels. The EU and Switzerland already stopped doing this - it makes no sense to continue and even less sense to continue and then moan they make too much money and then tax them more - which they moan about.
Our Banks are on massive Benefits - let’s cut them and get our banks back to work. If they can get 4% for doing nothing, they need to be paid more when lending to us - we make a burden for ourselves with these payments for nothing.

Left: Conservative Helen Whately criticised Labour for 174,000 young people unemployed under Labour, suggesting they have the policies to fix it
Right: But under the Conservatives, there were 872,000 young people unemployed, because of Conservative policy
My view:
Helen Whately talks as though the Conservatives have just arrived to discover a problem somebody else created. They governed Britain for 14 years.
They had 14 years to improve education, strengthen training and help young people into secure employment. Yet in the final full quarter before they left office, an estimated 872,000 young people were outside education, employment or training. Roughly one in eight.
That is a record they must answer for. If their policies offer such convincing solutions now, why did their government leave so many young people without those opportunities?
Whately cannot claim authority on fixing the problem while skipping over her party’s responsibility for tackling it when it actually held power. Fourteen years gave the Conservatives ample time to turn promises into results.
Labour deserves scrutiny. But Conservative politicians demanding better outcomes should start by explaining their own failures. Losing an election does not wipe away 14 years in government—or turn the people who failed to solve a problem into credible experts on fixing it.

In 2016 the Conservative Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said,
"The only country that would like us to leave the EU is Russia"
In 2026 the former Head of MI6 Sir John Sawers said,
"Russia was very keen that the Leave campaign should succeed and that Britain should leave the European Union. Because that would marginalise Britain as a global player and weaken Europe in general"
"That's the strategic opportunity the Russians spotted, and the leaders of the Leave campaign fell into it"
My view:
The warning was there before the referendum: Moscow had a clear interest in Britain breaking with Europe. A decade later, a former head of MI6 has explained why — a divided Europe and a Britain pushed to the margins would serve Russia’s strategic interests.
It does show that the Kremlin saw Brexit as an opportunity to weaken both Britain and the European Union, and was keen for Leave to win.
The damage was predictable: less British influence in Europe, more friction between allies and a weaker collective response to Russian aggression.
Brexit handed Moscow the kind of division it wanted.
The leaders of Leave may have believed they were restoring Britain’s power. In reality, they pursued a course that played directly into Russia’s hands, and the country is still living with the consequences: weaker, worse off, with escalated societal tensions.
