#OTD in 1996, Carl Sagan died: 27 years without Carl
«When my husband died, because he was so famous and known for not being a believer, many people would come up to me ― it still sometimes happens ― and ask me if Carl changed at the end and converted to a belief in an afterlife.
They also frequently ask me if I think I will see him again. Carl faced his death with unflagging courage and never sought refuge in illusions. The tragedy was that we knew we would never see each other again. I don't ever expect to be reunited with Carl.
But, the great thing is that when we were together, for nearly twenty years, we lived with a vivid appreciation of how brief and precious life is. We never trivialized the meaning of death by pretending it was anything other than a final parting.
Every single moment that we were alive and we were together was miraculous-not miraculous in the sense of inexplicable or supernatural. We knew we were beneficiaries of chance.
That pure chance could be so generous and so kind. That we could find each other, as Carl wrote so beautifully in Cosmos, you know, in the vastness of space and the immensity of time. That we could be together for twenty years. That is something which sustains me and it’s much more meaningful.
The way he treated me and the way I treated him, the way we took care of each other and our family, while he lived. That is so much more important than the idea I will see him someday. I don't think I'll ever see Carl again. But I saw him. We saw each other. We found each other in the cosmos, and that was wonderful».

First, what Hamas did is outrageous and disgusting. It is by every measure an act of monstrous evil. Israel has a right to defend itself, but it does not, as I have already stated, have a right to break international law.
Second, here’s the host of the most watched chat show in Ireland speaking on Friday night. His father was murdered by the Ulster Freedom Fighters in 1988, a loyalist terror gang. I shared that video yesterday, and again today, because it speaks to my sentiments about the utter tragedy of war and in particular what happened in Israel a week ago, and since.
Third, the path to peace in Ireland required two sides, who had perpetrated every unimaginable act of inhumanity against each other, to finally sit down. Peace seemed impossible, hate and division ran incomprehensibly deep, but a miracle eventually broke out. That miracle was peace. To paraphrase Patrick Kielty: For all those in Israel and Palestine, it might not seem like it but there is always hope, and I hope that your miracle comes soon. ☮️ ❤️

Dear @tesla/@elonmusk/@teslaeurope, Our members are frustrated to the point that open letters are being written. 2 years without opening a Supercharger, already built locations are still to be open. Pls take a look. 🙏
Here’s the open letter from @SeCosta, one of our vocal members and Club Event Manager:
Open Letter to Tesla Portugal
Dear representatives of Tesla Portugal:
This is possibly one of the most sensitive and difficult topics to address, and as time goes by, the situation only worsens.
This weekend, I organized the Douro Sunset 2023 event, something I have been doing since 2020, always with the intention of welcoming the Tesla Community to new owners, exchanging impressions with long-time owners, and ultimately sharing stories, expectations, and experiences.
Fate would have it that the day we celebrate this gathering would also be the 850th day since the beginning of the construction of the Matosinhos Supercharger (with the Castelo Branco one being only a few days "newer"). Currently, one of the most frequently asked questions in our cyber space is precisely when these Superchargers will open.
Although we received your response a few months ago from Hugo Pinto, Co-Administrator of the Tesla Club Portugal Facebook group, I regret to say that the response - after months of insistence - was a "handful of nothing."
And we, Portuguese owners, deserve more. Much more.
Tesla sells more vehicles in Portugal than in Spain, a country four times larger.
Tesla sold more vehicles in Portugal in January and February 2023 than in the entire year of 2022.
In Europe, one out of every 26 Tesla vehicles is sold in Portugal.
Tesla has not opened a Supercharger in Portugal since August 24, 2020 - Loulé (and I was present at the inauguration event).
It is June 2023. There are increasingly more Tesla vehicles on Portuguese roads. There are critical moments of use when the installed infrastructure is no longer sufficient.
We have the glaring example of Alcácer do Sal: We know that the infrastructure cannot be scaled for peak situations.
Three years ago, it was adequate.
Two years ago, it was sufficient.
Last year, there were already quite frequent situations - particularly on weekends during the summer months - where there were long queues.
This year, we are already witnessing a worsening, compared to the previous year, as these situations now occur outside the holiday period and during the week.
And so, it is urgent to ask:
What is happening?
Why have there been no Superchargers opening in Portugal since 2020?
What are the constraints?
Who are you working with to resolve these situations?
What are the possible solutions?
Is there anything owners can do?
Frankly, more than the situation itself, it is the passivity and lack of communication on the part of Tesla that gives the feeling that Portuguese Tesla owners and the community have been abandoned by the brand regarding the Supercharger issue.
As an owner, I expect seriousness, commitment, and transparency from the brand.
I speak on behalf of all owners when I say that we are tired of asking for answers.
Now we are demanding them.
Sérgio Costa
Tesla owner since 2018.

Eu, hermafrodita
Da água respirei a vida
No sangue que bebi, o soro
Nos ares explodi, em choro
Da gula que comi, a fome
Da fêmea que nasci, homem
Eu me transformei em mim
Do Deus que duvidei, o sim
Das mortes que vivi, o além
Dos vícios que virei, refém
Dos bichos que sou, felina
