14 years of education reform and what have we got? A fragmented, marketised system, SEND provision in crisis, rising home education (not always by choice), nearly 1m young people NEET and declining PISA science scores. Perhaps the trad movement should examine its own legacy?

Another reminder that child abusers like to hold positions of trust that give them access to, and authority over, children. A professional title is not a safeguard. Children’s safety must always come before an adult’s status or reputation. “A former schoolteacher and magician from Bexley who sexually abused a nine-year-old girl has been jailed for more than two years.” newsshopper.co.uk/news/26639…

ICE run over U.S. citizen riding his bike—break his arm. Agents handcuff him behind his back without calling paramedics. They inflict even more injuries—send him to the hospital in serious condition. Then agents detain another U.S. citizen—for yelling at them on the sidewalk. Man with the broken arm's daughter says he was hit on his e-bike by an unmarked car. He was then tased twice and pinned to the ground—currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Multiple ICE vehicles were running through stop signs—speeding the wrong way down one-way streets. All on a weekend afternoon with kids playing outside. Incident occurred near the intersection of East 56th Street & Elm Avenue in Long Beach, California. Stop ICE Net doesn't have an account on this platform—so posting first full length, English translated, and credited video here to help raise awareness.

Laura doesn’t want critical free thinkers, she probably hasn’t even looked at the resources. It’s not left wing just because it doesn’t fit your ideology Laura! What’s wrong with CYP learning about humanitarian international law & aptitudes to become democratic & responsible?

Brilliant work by cartoonist @BJennings90, perfectly capturing the absurdity of counter-terror policing in the UK. #SallyRooney #SarahHelm

Perhaps she should look beyond a selective handful of studies before dismissing sensory supports used by disabled children. A 2026 systematic review published in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy found strong evidence that Ayres Sensory Integration interventions improve individualized goals and occupational performance. A 2025 systematic review of 21 studies also identified evidence supporting several sensory-based interventions. And a 2022 study found that fidget spinners improved observed on-task behavior in children with ADHD. These interventions are not interchangeable, nor do they work for every child. That is precisely why individual assessment matters. Evidence that a particular tool does not improve academic performance across a group is not proof that it cannot benefit an individual disabled child. Sensory regulation, participation, comfort and autonomy matter. Disabled children's accommodations should not be dismissed through sweeping generalizations masquerading as evidence-informed practice.

Like many of you, I really thought the increased evidence around these not working meant they had dropped out of schools. I really don't know why they are back!!

Are there any ‘so called progressives’ in the room with you now Laura?
Replying to @daisychristo
You have the Conservative Party, I promise you that. I will do everything in my power to defend our school system from so called progressives who want to destroy progress.

And now the inevitable has happened. Bad actors, operating under the anti-DEI/Free Speech/Meritocracy banner have announced their own review. It's staffed by the usual suspects, right-wing, transphobic, racist & worse.

Short thread on Jason Arday & Cambridge: where things are: (1/n) about ten days ago, 45 senior staff sent a letter to the Chancellor, reminding the University that a thorough review had been promised, and was nowhere in sight. The Afzal review was on one specific matter alone

For 50 years I’ve been part of oracy in action, sharing poems orally, pupils learning to perform poems, talking about poems, writing poems, talking about the poems they write, building poems orally. Feels odd to see people despising this sort of thing.

Superb letter by Green councillor Charli Anne Thompson. The excellent letters from numerous Greens illustrate that when a position is held with commitment & intellectual rigour it is very easy to argue for it. Unlike the pathetic offerings from Labour of antiZionism=antisemitism, a view that is intellectually disingenuous & in itself racist, as it ascribes an ideology, Zionism, to all Jews.

A really excellent response by Barnet’s solitary Green councillor Charli Anne Thompson to Zionist hooligan Sarah Sackman (ex vice chair in Labour Zionist group the JLM). This is the polite, articulate politician’s way to say “F off”. 10/10, no notes.

A large-scale quantitative empirical study of restorative justice in schools directly challenges the claim that restorative justice is supported only by small-scale, weak, or unscalable evidence. aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.12… Adukia, Feigenberg, and Momeni’s 2025 study, “From Retributive to Restorative: An Alternative Approach to Justice in Schools,” was published in the American Economic Review, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Economic Association. The AER was established in 1911 and is described by the AEA as one of the oldest and most respected scholarly journals in economics. It is also widely recognised as one of the traditional “top five” economics journals. This is not a political think tank analysis, a partisan policy briefing, or a qualitative review. It is original empirical research by Anjali Adukia of the University of Chicago, Benjamin Feigenberg of the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Fatemeh Momeni of the University of Chicago Education Lab. The study examined Chicago Public Schools’ rollout of restorative practices, with the main high-school analysis covering 239 high schools serving more than 100,000 students annually, including 73 high schools that introduced restorative practices, and additional elementary-school analysis involving 548 elementary schools, of which 214 introduced restorative practices. The study found reductions in suspensions and arrests, including out-of-school arrests, without meaningful average academic harm. Its findings do not prove that every restorative model works everywhere, but they directly undermine broad claims that there is no serious large-scale evidence for restorative practices in schools.

Excellent. Educators - read the actual research like this below, not the usual "punish the soul out of them" dogma from whichever Trad is trending this week.

Last three years were a moral stress test for humanity. The people of the world did not fail it, but many governments did. The consequences have been devastating: a genocide livestreamed in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. Let us learn from this and act to save what remains of us and of our humanity. Part of a lecture at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

SEND families: you can get involved in this call for evidence around school exclusions. Let's make it overwhelmingly clear just hiw disproportionately this affects SEND kids, and how harmful (and frequently unlawful!) it is.
The Government has launched a 5-week "Call for Evidence" on its White Paper school exclusions proposals It wants to see "research, data and practical examples to inform policy development and the statutory framework that would underpin these reforms." consult.education.gov.uk/sch…

Today I attended the launch of this important report on the impact the condition endometriosis has on women in the workplace. I raised the plight of women with endometriosis over 20 years ago in Parliament after meeting constituents struggling to secure a diagnosis, support and treatment. Many women explained the immense difficulties and lack of support they were experiencing at work. This detailed report brings home the reality so many women still face and sets out a series of improvements that could be made to transform the lives of large numbers of women at work.

Remember every pearl-clutching journalist and commentator who insisted it was in the public interest to know every single detail of a Cambridge academic's life, even after he resigned his position, because he did some sloppy copy-and-pasting as a post-grad student?
