As the U.S. debates energy strategy amid the Strait of Hormuz closure, China has spent decades cutting oil dependence. On @Poli_Climate @Securing_Energy CEO @averyaash explains why this move is about resilience and national security, more than climate.

When you look under the hood, you see how *specific* the red-state Senate Dem energy proposals are. They all want to revive the solar and wind tax credits. They all want to make data centers pay full freight. Annie Andrews even endorses permitting reform at length:
Wow, TIL that Adam Hamilton had as a core part of his energy campaign platform... requiring competitive bidding for transmission projects rather than allowing allowing incumbent utilities to monopolize them(!?!?!) h/t @robinsonmeyer and @heatmap_news newsletter.

HEINRICH, who will be ENR chair next year, is committed to passing permitting in lame duck: “It doesn't necessarily get easier just because of who the Chair is. This is the closest we have come to actually finding something that can get signed into law, and I'm not going to wait”

Was SO HONORED to be on the @EnergyEmpirePod Listen to this along with @Poli_Climate and you’ll have all the info you need!
“There’s this idea that if you are for fossil fuels, you’re of the political right, and if you’re for clean energy and climate solutions, you’re of the political left. And that’s just dumb.”
Trump’s former FERC chair Neil Chatterjee joins Energy Empire to talk about selling Ted Cruz on rooftop solar tax credits as “an America First type policy,” his Senate call and why he’s nervous about the permitting bill.

Great to join the @Poli_Climate podcast with a fun crew to discuss my reporting on the Senate's bipartisan permitting reform bill. We also discuss the Caleb(s) of Chicago sports. Take a listen!
Is a more collaborative relationship with China possible?
On clean energy, young progressives and Trump may find common ground argues @BrandonHurlbut. Could the debate shift from whether the U.S. engages with China to how—and on what terms?

Virginia is the epicenter of the U.S. data center boom — and now the state is laying out a plan to power that growth without abandoning its clean energy goals.

A permitting reform deal months in the making could die if we are not carefully watching: the House. On the new @Poli_Climate, @FERChatterjee breaks down why clearing the Senate isn't the finish line: it's where the real fight starts. Listen now: buff.ly/iC1SpzN

If you're reading tweets claiming that #BAAJA helps #datacenters by letting them get speed for "flexing at peak", they are wrong. This simplification is dangerous. It misses the engineering reality of the grid. If a large load only curtails during system-wide peak hours, it can still fail IX studies and won't get powered faster. Grid constraints aren't just about system-wide capacity. Steady-state analysis evaluates N-1 contingencies (like unexpectedly losing a transformer or transmission line). These trigger severe localized thermal limits and congestion, which can easily happen off-peak. BAAJA’s breakthrough isn't peak shaving; it's codifying "non-firm transmission service". The bill mandates standardized evaluation of "cost reduction options" to create a regulatory hook for "non-firm withdrawal limits that avoid network upgrades". The real speed mechanism: get faster interconnection and lower transmission rates not by dodging peak pricing, but by acting as true congestion-accepting resources. They are legally and economically binding themselves to localized, node-specific physics.
BAAJA makes what we've already written for Texas as #PCLR, possible for FERC grids.

“There will be problems,” he said. But if stakeholders approach it with an open mind, instead of going for the kill, permitting reform might actually get done this year.
