I was hoping to be able to announce this in my own time – but the media rumour mill is swirling, I'm being contacted by various reporters and others, and I don't like denying the truth, so ...
I wrote my first "Economic Agenda" column in The Sunday Telegraph 27 years ago, under the editorship of Dominic Lawson – filling-in occasionally during the late-1990s, before being given my own weekly slot from 2003.
Since then, while I've been heavily involved in television, and am perhaps better known as a broadcaster, penning "Economic Agenda" for The Sunday Telegraph each week has been the backbone of my journalistic life.
On Thursday, the @Telegraph rang to tell me my column is being scrapped.
I was asked, and have agreed, to write "Economic Agenda" until the end of November, as per my contract. After that, my Sunday Telegraph column will be no more.
Why this decision has been made, and whether or not my columns were any good, is for others to judge.
All I will say is that, as the first person in my family to attend university, sustaining a weekly column in a leading national newspaper for a quarter of a century has been a source of enormous pride for myself and my family.
Lots of people have been asking me about the future of "Planet Normal" - the hugely-popular Telegraph podcast which I co-created and co-present with the brilliant @AllisonPearson
"Planet Normal" has, over the last 330 weekly episodes, also become a major part of my professional life and my broader identity.
With Allison reportedly leaving the Telegraph as well, there is a lot of speculation about whether or not the podcast will continue to impart "news and views from beyond the bubble" with our usual blend of sharp analysis, humour and occasional outrage !
Well, I am delighted to confirm that Co-Pilot Pearson and myself are deeply committed to our joint podcast – and, above all, to our beloved listeners.
We will, as and when notice periods allow, continue our voyages through space every Thursday – perhaps to "Planet Normal", or maybe to another part of the solar system – so we can "gaze down each week at the madness of Planet Earth", as we have done since the Spring of 2020.
So citizens of Planet Normal, stand ready ! The "rocket-of-right-thinking", the "flying refuge of reasoned views", will soon be launched once again 🚀🪐👨🏭👱♀️🎙️📺
I poured my heart and soul into "Economic Agenda" and "Planet Normal". The Telegraph's decision to scrap them is obviously a huge personal blow. But I will always be grateful for the opportunities the paper has given me.
Above all, I would like to thank the illustrious list of successive Telegraph business editors I've worked with since the late-1990s, many of whom have become and remain good friends - including @Peston @RobertsDan @larmitstead @neilbenet @benjaminmarlow @cg_williams @kamalahmednews @MarkKleinmanSky @jamesrquinn (sorry if I've forgotten anyone, it's been a long time!)
On Friday, even though I almost always write my column from elsewhere, and despite being extremely disappointed by the paper's decision, I decided to go into the Telegraph and write today's column sitting in the newsroom.
I am glad I did - as being at the heart of the paper at such a difficult time allowed for lots of conversations, with everyone from junior production staff to senior reporters and executives, which reminded me that journalism, despite being an industry at the whim of seemingly endless and often brutal commercial and technological upheaval, is not only hugely important to our country, but full of talented, decent people.
See picture below, having just filed my piece, as I was heading out the door ...

Since I shared the @JMCDelingpole interview with geoengineering autodidactict, Max Bliss, I have been relentlessly trolled by the deep state agent provocateurs.

This is why Wetherspoons has removed the steak, mixed grill, gammon, lamb shank, salmon & beef chilli from its menu, whilst keeping the rice, pasta, salad, and veg chilli. Eventually, all restaurants will follow suit (see predictive programming Demolition Man).
A restaurant makes more on the pasta than the steak, and the entire food system worked that out before you did.
The ribeye is £42 on the menu. It cost the kitchen about £14 to put on the plate.
The pasta is £18. It cost about £2.50, most of which was the parmesan.
The salad is £14. It cost about £2, and the lettuce was the expensive bit.
The risotto is £19. It is rice, stock and a knob of butter, and the stock was free.
The steak returns twice what it cost. The pasta returns six times. The salad returns six times.
So the chef's special is the pasta, the salad gets a paragraph on the menu, and the steak sits at the bottom with no adjectives.
Now scale the restaurant up to a country.
A box of cereal is 20p of grain and £3.50 on the shelf.
A plant-based burger is pea flour, rapeseed oil and a red dye, and it sells for more than the beef one it is pretending to be.
An oat drink is oats and water and sells at twice the price of the milk it replaced.
Every tier of the trade makes its margin on the plant, because a plant is nearly free and an animal takes two years of grass.
Bill Gates owns more farmland than any other man in America, holds stakes in the fake meat firms, and told the rich world to switch to synthetic beef.
The pattern in the restaurant and the pattern in the policy are the same pattern. Talk down the expensive ingredient. Sell the cheap one at the expensive price. Keep the difference.
The advice you were given about meat was written by people who make eight times more when you order the pasta.
Nobody is giving you a diet. They are giving you the menu with the margins folded over.
Almost all the debate below this post is conducted by intelligence services bots. Dead internet. It's all manipulation and fakery.

I read this (via @rudyhavenstein) and it troubles me. We are all pretty grumpy at what is surely closer to the top rather than the bottom of a secular cycle. What happens at the bottom? I am torn between wanting to go long guillotines and hoping we get through it skipping that phase. It never ends well, but if it is not going to end well, I hope the criminal elite are the first to go.

Dear Secretary Bessent @SecScottBessent,
My name is Everett Stern. In 2010 I was a compliance officer at @HSBC. From a back office in New Castle, Delaware, I watched billions of dollars move to drug cartels, sanctioned regimes, and terrorist organizations. The enemies of the United States. I documented it, I escalated it, and when the bank would not act, I took it to the @FBI, the @CIA, and eventually the @SECGov.
The result was a $1.92 billion settlement. At the time, it was one of the largest in American history. It was also about five weeks of the bank’s profit. Not one banker was charged. Not one went to prison.
I paid a different price. I lost my career, my savings, and my place in the industry I had trained for. I was blacklisted. Every door in American finance closed at once. I slept on a camping cot in a 300 square foot apartment because I could not afford a bed, and I waited tables at @PFChangs to eat. I tell you this not for sympathy, but so you understand that I know exactly what it costs to do the right thing in American finance, and exactly how little the system does in return.
I made that sacrifice because I believed it would change something.
Yesterday, your department fined @BankofAmerica $1.2 billion for failing to report more than $5 billion in suspicious transactions, some of it tied by your own findings to Chinese laundering networks, narcotics, and the southwest border, alongside 475 apparent sanctions violations touching Russia, Iran, and global terrorism. The bank admitted it willfully violated the Bank Secrecy Act.
Fourteen years after HSBC. A bank with “America” in its name. And once again, not one individual charged.
Secretary Bessent, I want to say plainly what I believe you already know. The fines are not working.
A fine is paid by shareholders, absorbed by the balance sheet, and forgotten by the next earnings call. Bank of America reported earnings this morning. Nobody who set the alert thresholds, nobody who decided the 2024 cease and desist could wait, nobody who chose the backlog over the law will lose a single thing they value. Their lives are untouched. That is the entire reason the behavior repeats.
This is money laundering. This is blood money. Money that reaches a cartel buys fentanyl that kills Americans. Money that reaches a terrorist organization buys the next attack. This country has fought a war on drugs and a war on terror for decades, at enormous cost in lives and treasure, and all the while we have allowed the financing to flow through institutions we charter and regulate. Cut off the money and we win. We have never seriously tried.
There is also a question of equal justice that I cannot let go.
Before I walked into the FBI building to report HSBC, I stopped in front of the Great Seal on the wall and read the words engraved beneath it: “Justice is the defense of our liberty.” I believed that. I still want to. But every day in this country, people go to prison for crimes that are nothing next to moving money for the people who want Americans dead. A suit, a title, and a corporate badge should not be a shield from the consequences that apply to everyone else. If a street dealer goes to prison for what he sells, the banker who moved the cartel’s money should be standing next to him.
I also want to raise something that is rarely said in these conversations. Why has no one inside Bank of America come forward the way I did? The answer is that everyone in American banking knows what happened to me, and to the whistleblowers who came after. The last person who spoke up is the only policy anyone believes. That is a culture problem, and it starts with leadership, in the banks and in the agencies that regulate them.
This is not a political issue. It has spanned administrations of both parties. It is a national security issue, and I am asking you to treat it as one.
Three things would change the math overnight.
Refer individuals for criminal prosecution. Not the analyst in the queue. The executives who set the thresholds and chose the risk. One banker in handcuffs would do more than every fine in Treasury’s history combined.
End “too big to jail.” An institution cannot be too big to fail and too big to jail at the same time. If it is the first, it must be held to a higher standard, not a lower one.
And if Bank of America will not act as America’s bank, review its charter. A national charter is a privilege granted on behalf of the American people. It should be conditioned on not moving money for the people trying to kill them.
Secretary Bessent, you said yesterday that these actions send a clear message that even the biggest institutions are not above the law. With respect, the institution was never the problem. The people inside it are above the law, and they know it. Until that changes, I will keep writing letters like this one, and the next bank will keep paying the next fine.
I gave up everything I had to stop this. I am asking you to use the power you have to finish it.
Respectfully,
Everett A. Stern

Replying to @RWTaylors
According to the UK government, total committed support to Ukraine stands at £35 billion as of 28 October 2026. This includes £16 billion military (with the £2.26 billion ERA loan), up to £12.6 billion non-military, and a £6.5 billion UK Export Finance cover limit. Figures refer to commitments; exact amounts already received or disbursed are not published as a single total.

Fun Fact: Jacob Rees-Mogg was named after Jacob Rothschild, his father’s patron, the source of the family wealth, and Young Jacob’s first employer.
“Washington” is the CIA, which is entwined with Mossad. Their Sayanim usually funnel money into agents’ businesses and proxies.

In March, Jacob Rees-Mogg became a founding director of the new "878 Institute".
By July, US officials were considering giving it a $7m sole-source grant.
By September, Rees-Mogg was telling Britons they were all mongerals, war may be coming, people may have to “do their duty”, and "some may even have to die".
The grant was never awarded, but the timeline is extraordinary.
What exactly did Washington think 878 was going to do that was worth $7 million?

.@mwd892 1/2 What do you mean 'peer adversary'? If it weren't for MI6's ancestral feud with the GRU, its origins lost in the dead Cold War, Britain and Russia would barely notice each other's existence, being 16,00 miles apart. In what way are we an 'adversary'?
Replying to @DavidTBTaylor @ClarkeMicah
Because it weakens a peer adversary and makes a wider war in Europe less likely. If Putin conquered Ukraine and consolidated his position, he would likely look west towards the Baltic states. This would drag Britain into a costly and bloody war.

BREAKING NEWS:
PETER BLEKSLEY: MEDIA DARLING OR SERIAL WALTER MITTY??
Bleksley: RACIST ABUSER
In his own words...
The Police Brutality:
The Sun screenshots show an explicit acknowledgement of participation in violence or brutality:
“There was so much violence, so much brutality some of which I got swept along with, some of which I took part in, all of which I regret.”
The interview also records witnessing people being beaten in interview rooms and remaining silent because speaking out would supposedly have ended the Bleksley's career.
What a Contemptible, Despicable, Coward.
This admission should have seen the Met Police swing into action to investigate and, if true, prosecute Bleksley.
Instead he has been left to build a huge income stream on unsubstantiated:
1/ Police Rank - if he was transferred from Uniformed PC to Plain Clothes DC this is not, strictly, a Promotion, it's a sideways move.
Q: What was Bleksley's Rank?
2/ Bleksley claims he solved 100% of the Murder Cases he investigated.
PROVE IT
3/ Bleksley claims to be the "most commended police officer of his generation"
PROVE IT
And there's a whole lot more unsubstantiated stuff this guy throws around as proof of his heroism.
AND THE MEDIA HAS GIVEN HIM A FREE PASS TO FAME, WEALTH AND SUCCESS.
Without Checking or Questioning Anything he says or writes.
They rely entirely on his own Press Releases and Grandiose Website Posturing.
But maybe it’s all Spin?
If true, this would not be a minor case of an ex-police officer polishing a CV.
It would be a self-reinforcing credibility failure lasting decades.
What the hypothetical scandal could look like:
The mechanism would be remarkably simple:
Bleksley supplies an exciting personal history.
A publisher accepts it for an autobiography and promotional biography.
Later journalists treat the published biography as independent confirmation.
Television producers see previous television appearances as proof of credibility.
Each new appearance cites the accumulated media profile rather than an original police record.
Secrecy, undercover work and witness protection provide an apparently plausible explanation for why documentary evidence cannot be produced.
Eventually, repetition becomes mistaken for verification.
That would be circular sourcing, not corroboration.
Why the murder-threat claim would matter.
Under this hypothesis, the alleged plot to murder him would do more than make the story dramatic.
It could also function as an evidential shield:
Records cannot be discussed because operations were secret;
Colleagues cannot be identified because lives could be endangered;
Identities and locations cannot be disclosed;
Cases cannot be described fully;
Journalists may feel that challenging him risks appearing insensitive;
Absence of evidence can be presented as evidence of how secret and dangerous the work was.
Who could have been misled?
If the central story was materially fabricated, the possible victims of the deception could extend well beyond viewers:
publishers;
broadcasters;
production companies;
theatres and event promoters;
podcast producers;
newspapers;
paying audiences;
FAMILIES whose unsolved cases became part of his media work;
Genuine former detectives whose credentials undergo much greater scrutiny;
Metropolitan Police, if its institutional name was used to market false expertise.
All Harmed.
