The @AP wrote a long piece on GM's self-driving car efforts, which are respectable and impressive — but it gives just one line to @tesla, which has a far more advanced system available today. "Tesla lists technology used in its cars as 'Full Self-Driving,' but it still requires human oversight." REALLY? apnews.com/article/automaker…

Absolute scandal. That ball was going to Mars.
Oh. My. Goodness. This ball hit by France looked to potentially be a go-ahead home run, but it hit the roof and was caught, and was ruled an out.

Do not abuse this. It is for life-threatening situations, like the one we saw in Twin Falls, Idaho. Sometimes the world is a scary place. Be prepared.
A feature we hope you never need. We select Supercharger locations with safety in mind and relocate sites deemed unsafe. Our goal is that you always feel safe getting out to unplug. We went back and forth on this for years, but believe offering it is the right call. Don't abuse it, so we don't have to restrict it. Great work by many teams across Tesla to get this launched. We'll improve it quickly based on feedback.

So… you, as an adult, voluntarily participated in a legal activity and waited for someone to stop you.
NEW: I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company’s “responsible gaming” safeguards. Spoiler Alert: They invited me into the VIP program after just one week. Here’s how I yeeted $20K+ ripping riskier and risker bets 🧵

Move fast, don’t break things.
My Starbase Louisiana SpaceX town hall notes! Roads: Bridge work is the first priority, with road upgrades coming soon. Once construction starts, they plan to bus contract workers in to reduce traffic. About 40,000 acres will be developed. SpaceX says it is committed to keeping the other two-thirds accessible to the public for hunting and fishing. More specifically, expect limited access south of Humble Canal. Why 40,000 acres? One reason: some pads will be operational while others are still being built. That means more spacing between pads. They do not anticipate structural damage to homes in Pecan Island, and say they will work with residents if it becomes necessary. Target: 10,000 launches a year. Expect most activity around sunrise and sunset. First permits should start showing up soon. Starship will be manufactured on site. There will not be one contractor in charge. There will be many, with SpaceX keeping the lead. Contractors are held to a high standard and will have to keep earning their spot on this site. Biggest takeaway: SpaceX is humble. Always wanting to learn, and not claiming to have all the answers. They are leaning on experts in Vermilion Parish for wetland and wildlife knowledge while developing the largest spaceport in history.

While I agree that this is a silly move by the White House... ...if you need access to the building to cover the Trump Administration, you're a stenographer, not a journalist.
Today’s action revoking access for journalists from CNN, POLITICO, and MSNOW violates the First Amendment. The implications extend beyond these organizations: a standard used to exclude one news outlet because of its coverage could be applied to any outlet in the future. The American people, through a free and independent press, must be able to scrutinize those elected to power, regardless of whether government officials view it favorably.  That’s why courts have repeatedly held that once the White House provides access to journalists, it cannot deny that access arbitrarily or based on the content of their reporting. The WHCA calls on the administration to immediately restore our colleagues' access. - Jacqui Heinrich, WHCA President

The number of people claiming this is the same deal we’ve always had is hysterical. They’re basically trying to claim that renting and owning a house are identical and there’s no difference. Spoiler: there’s a difference.
BREAKING NEWS: I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many U.S. concerns. There will be NO COST to the United States! At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland, and the United States of America. Additionally, from now on, no U.S. adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval. For over 100 years, Presidents have known the strategic importance of Greenland, but NONE of them were able to do anything about it. I am proud to be the President that permanently and conclusively addressed this very important situation. This is an “Infinite Life” Agreement, there is no end! We are very honored and proud of what has just taken place, and everything agreed to today will be cherished by the American People. We will immediately begin the process of developing a large Military presence in the appropriate part of Greenland, of which there are many. We will work with the people of Greenland in its development and construction. This solution is a great one for the United States of America, Denmark, Greenland, and all of our Allies. We look forward to working with the wonderful people of Denmark and Greenland toward a magnificent future with respect to this large, and highly strategic, parcel of land. We will be very protective of it! This is a dream come true for the United States of America, one that is very important, historic, and special. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

I do not have trust in their safety.
This is Trust & Safety 2.0. The last time we had media-generated panics like this (with Russiagate and Covid), social media companies created “trust & safety” teams to censor conservative and dissident voices. Those hires worked with left-wing NGOs like the SPLC to police public discourse and do an end-run around the First Amendment. It almost worked, until Elon bought Twitter and exposed the whole game in the Twitter Files. This time the plan is to embed unfireable EA minders inside every AI company as the new trust-and-safety layer. The censorship and control will be far more comprehensive, but also more subtle. Anytime they don’t get what they want, this unaccountable NGO layer (with the veneer of “trust the experts” pseudoscience) will shriek to the press that the AI company is risking humanity, and they will be celebrated as “whistleblowers.” These groups haven’t earned our trust, and their agenda is not our safety. aievaluatorforum.org/initiat…

Oh, is it another existential crisis like Covid and climate change that means we have to surrender our freedom to the smart people? Right on time.
Everyone from AI whistleblowers to the titans of the AI platforms warn about the catastrophic risk to humanity of supeintelligent models that are rapidly evolving. The @POTUS, with deep political and business ties to the industry, dismisses it as a "hoax." xitter.cf/ossoff/status/20992729…

What a get! One of the coolest planes ever made!
A Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighter is joining the National Air and Space Museum collection. The F-117 is the world’s first true operational stealth combat aircraft. Transferred from the U.S. Air Force and prepared for public display by Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, our F-117 will make its debut at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in late October. This is a journalistic disgrace. A disgrace. Jury service is a sacrifice that many of us attempt to avoid. But jurors are essential, and neither the American criminal nor civil justice system can function without them. Moreover, the jury system provides a powerful protection for the criminally accused, as unanimity among jurors of diverse backgrounds and experiences is difficult to achieve. Holdout jurors are a feature of the American jury system, not a bug. For a media outlet—specifically Boston NBC 10—to expose the personal life of a private person merely because that individual honorably performed his civic duty and devoted weeks of his life to jury service is shameful. Who in their right mind will appear for jury service if they know they can be publicly humiliated and dragged just because some media outlet or finger-wagging mob believes they voted the “wrong” way? This disgraceful “reporting” by Boston NBC 10 is an attack on the foundation of the American justice system itself. Shame.
EXCLUSIVE: The holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial had a history of domestic violence allegations, the NBC10 Boston Investigators have learned through court documents and interviews with family members. Read the full investigation here. on.nbcboston.com/FL2Wbjr

I was a volunteer firefighter for five years. The sound of the PASS alarm is drilled into my brain to this day. I cannot imagine what this would have been like for the firefighters working the pile.
The rubble at the scene of the World Trade Center collapse is filled with the sounds of “PASS devices,” or emergency signals attached to firefighters when they are no longer moving. The scale of overlapping PASS alarms bespeaks the horrible death toll that must have taken place here. Yet worse - the alarms can’t be stopped because the bodies haven’t been found.
