Out today! 'A neoliberal revolution? Thatcherism and the reform of British pensions' by @aled_r_davies @jgfreeman & @hugh_pemberton 📘tinyurl.com/dckwecs9 This new book examines the Thatcher government’s attempt to privatise and individualise Britain’s pension system, thereby transforming workers into risk-taking savers with a stake in capitalism. @LSEpoliticsblog @JSP_Journal @EconObservatory @PSAConsStudies @ECPR @PSAPolHist @PolStudiesRev #pensions #Thatcherism

NEW: we need to talk about UK graduate wages, and the idea that Britain sends too many people to university. American readers should stick around for the UK/US comparisons 👀 Let’s start with this: the UK graduate wage premium has fallen substantially over the last 25 years

An exciting change is coming @TCBHJournal ! From January, the journal will be renamed Modern British History. We're currently planning the first issue and hope to use this moment to reflect on the field and the journal's place within it.
Beginning 1 January 2024, Twentieth Century British History will become Modern British History to reflect the journal’s expanding scope and vital position within the field. (1/3)

Sorry to say that the new UKRI policy allowing a range of OA licences for 'long-form' publication still does not apply to journal articles. You have to apply for an 'exemption' in order to publish a journal article funded by UKRI under a 'non-derivative' licence. (1/)

Regular reminder that the sector which sees some of the highest rewards market liberalism has to offer is not actually subject to the ultimate market disciplines. bbc.co.uk/news/business-6491…

Which isn’t to say that it’s not better to intervene and promote stability (it is in the short run). But the justification for high profits, salaries, and bonuses is undermined when the confidence key to banking is a product not of the sector but the taxpayer-funded state.

Interesting requirement on this job advert for a Project Curator at the @britishmuseum: 'good working relationships with Franks House [a BM Store] and other BM Staff.' So if you don't already have friends in the organisation, you cannot apply?

I think the last time three ex-PMs remained in the Commons was the early 1980s when Callaghan, Wilson and Heath were still MPs (before first two went to the Lords). #truss

Sounds like a recipe for trouble to me…
I missed one really important change in the procedure for polling Tory MPs. This time there will be an "indicative" vote once the candidates are down just to two, so that Tory members will know - which they didn't in the last election - which candidate commands...
