Adding my voice to the chorus of folks celebrating the life of Professor Mike Rose @uclaseis, a Super-Giant in the field of Education, Literacy, & Writing. Mike was generous w/ his time, thoughtful w/ his feedback, & critical when demanded. I will miss dearly. #myprofessorsDOPE

smh at the death of @BizMarkie Damn! Brother created classics I rock w/ my kids 2 this day: Str8 Clean & Fun. Juice Crew, esp. BD Kane, was on heavy rotation as we break dance under the name: The Jackson Street Crew. Rest in Power & we shall not forget “Nobody Beats the Biz!”

Throwback Thursday's Lit. Youth created Racists & Antiracists timelines frm @JasonReynolds83 & @DrIbram Stamped w/ Padlet. Deep convos but todays student quote: "Turn that up, that's my song!" Destiny's Child "Say My Name" our soundtrack. #PursuingDopeLearning #716YouthLiteracies
3
Tomorrow we start our Digital Autobiographies ala a mash-up of Jamaica Kincaid's "Girl" and Cameron's "Unwritten Rules for Black Boys." Still #PursuingDopeLearning and #PursuingDopeTeaching with #716YouthLiteracies
2
Still, @JasonReynolds83 & @DrIbram hope us to find love & truth in Chapter 7: "Africans are not savages." And neither are our teens & youth, & yet we have a system that treats them as such, where school discipline equals punishment, not restoring the dignity and humanity of youth
2
If you read Chapters 6 of Stamped by @JasonReynolds83 & @DrIbram those "racist ideas" of the 1700s find their ways into the perceptions and actions of people today. The chapter is really the birth of anti-blackness in this country.
As I work #PursuingDopeLearning and #PursuingDopeTeaching alongside Buffalo youth, I appreciate their candor and realness. Today was particularly tough as the young people described the anti-racist, anti-blackness phrases they've been the victim of in their lives

and my favorite @JasonReynolds83 & @DrIbram 5) "Not to sugar coat all the bad thing America did to people of color because the majority of the population thinks that we had nothing to do with it even though we did" #PursingDopeLearning #716YouthLiteracies
Hey @JasonReynolds83 and @DrIbram, our #716YouthLiteracies have some ideas for doing anti-racist work in Buffalo. Here are a few of their suggestions: 1) "Have long hard conversations with each other. It's necessary to communicate." 2) "speak out as a group"

Between questionable discussions of Kevin Gates, Becky G, and the meaning of a simp, these Sister and Brother Scholars laid it down about @JasonReynolds83 and @DrIbram's Stamped. Here is some of their Brilliance at work . . .

Tight session 2day about racial hierarchies existing now inspired by @JasonReynolds83 & @DrIbram Student quote 2day: "It's important to know the first racist because we now know that racism was tied to money and religion from the beginning." DAMN, GINA! #InPursuitofDopeLearning
3
I’ll be sure to share some of the magic of our efforts, fam. Hold on . . . #InPursuitofDopeLearning, #InPursuitofDopeTeaching, #716YouthLiteracies
Much love and respect to @morrellfatima, Buffalo Public Schools, Mayor Summer Youth Internship Program, @buffalostate, our ancestors and others for making this happen.

Our anchor text will be Stamped: Racism, Anti-racism, and You by @JasonReynolds83 and @DrIbram. Our youth will interrogate this text, talk about the good and the bad, and provide recommendations for how teachers can use it in school with youth this year.
Youth will be telling their stories on their terms in their beautiful ways.
Over the next four weeks our youth will sharpen their qualitative research skills & produce products like a digital autobiography, a 100-word biography, a digital book critique, & a digital story that captures the impact of COVID-19 & Racial terror form a teenager’s perspective.
