ALT A very early (undated, but possibly the first?) typed-up one-sided Monopoly rulesheet in Charles Darrow's collection. Most of the rules are essentially the same, except for a few magnified in the second picture: • The game mentions starting with $1500 in *chips* and script: presumably poker chips were used for 1s, 5s, and 10s. A cosmetic difference, but interesting. • More importantly, as I'll get into later, it mentions all unowned properties are offered for public auction when they are landed on, and the player whose token opened the property for sale has no preference in the bidding for it. In other words, there is no sale price, and there are no sales. This, as you can imagine, makes a big difference in how the game plays. *As for "wrong", it's of course a subjective call and I'll be giving many plausible variations to try at the end. But I'd bet money that the modal modern boardgame fan would enjoy/respect this version way more than they do the ostensibly canonical one.
