"How Cleveland Clinic Is Developing AI To Monitor The Brain" forbes.com/sites/innovationr… Super impressed by @dsacellarius and the Piramidal team. They are using EEG data to diagnose seizures and, longer term, understand a wide range of neurological diseases and health.

The @MeckaAI team’s ambition and execution is top notch. They’re building the data and implementation layer for robotics, executing across digital data, IRL global operational work, and physical implementation. We’re grateful to be investors with @Adverbvc. ✨ 🚀
Today @MeckaAI is announcing a $60M Series B from @sequoia to accelerate the advent of general purpose robotics This brings our total funding to over $120M to become the data and deployment layer for physical AI Read more below 🧵

Talked to a Stanford prof last night who told me that AI has led to students all acing all the homeworks, never showing up to office hours, and then failing the final exams in-person. So in response the department is changing the TA's purpose, by eliminating office hours and requiring students meet with TAs 1:1 and walking them through each coding assignment to demonstrate they actually understand what's going on in the code.

Finally watched this excellent talk by @bgurley. It’s wild to see the historical precedent of how seriously we’ve investigated other major catastrophes and the lack of root cause understanding of Covid-19. It is incomprehensibly larger than all the others combined and could happen again.
This is a topic that has been weighing heavily on my mind for over five years. I hope we can find a way for eveyone to move forward with “inquiry” as the true-north. For the best interest of the globe.

building a high-performance code review product requires understanding the tradeoffs between recall, precision, latency, cost, and the severity of bugs each model catches. we’ve spent over a year building a benchmark, evals and dataset to understand those tradeoffs in order to keep @macroscope on the frontier of performance. today, we’re making those results public on MacroscopeBench so others can benefit from that work. macroscope.com/benchmark

Patrick Collison's advice to people in their 20s: find where the highest standards are, and go experience them firsthand. "When I talk to people in other domains, this is so frequently the thing that I hear from them." "That when they worked with X person or Y organization or in Z environment, they learned what great actually is, and that just permanently changed their sense for what their own standard for their work ought to be." "Maybe one version of what people in their twenties should do is... figure out, where can you learn the highest standards? Where are the highest standards embodied, and where can you go and experience that firsthand?" @patrickc w/ @dwarkesh_sp (Feb 2024)

I'm happy to share that @tokencompassai has closed a pre-seed round led by True Ventures (@trueventures), and with Adverb (@Adverbvc). We're building the measurement layer for AI at work. @michaelmontano (True Ventures) and I spent years at Twitter together building publisher and advertising analytics infrastructure at a scale where measurement and reporting was the core problem. @aunder (Adverb) was also there on the product and platform side, closest to the customers and launching new products into the market. They both understand, as I do, that tokens are the new unit of enterprise work, and that leadership teams have to carefully budget them across humans and agents alike. We're in private beta. Request a demo or reach out if you need help getting on top of your team's AI spend and usage. Onwards!

every conversation with @Rob_Bishop has been a insane learning experience. @Macroscope was one of the earliest power user of the training platform and its been a fun journey to keep up with the amazing work they are doing. Deeply technical, relentless on quality bar, always pushing our training infra to the limits, and fun to work with. thank you @kayvz and @Rob_Bishop for helping make the product better with your feedback.
A noisy code reviewer gets ignored. Flag too many non-issues and engineers tune it out. @Macroscope got the control they needed with the Fireworks Training API to train a model using their own advantages and loss to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. Build your own frontier: fireworks.ai/training

Overall, I’m very surprised at how little media coverage there’s been around the OpenAI / Hugging Face attack. It’s clearly one of the most important things to happen this year.
