I don't really use Twitter much these days.
If for some reason you want to follow me, you can do so on Cohost or Mastodon:

What's happening to Twitter is not the same as what happened to MySpace, LiveJournal, Tumblr, or other faded sites. People gradually moved from those sites on their own accord to better options. What's happening to Twitter is a controlled demolition.

If EARN IT becomes law, what happens on your iPhone won’t stay on your iPhone. And what happens on your website, in your cloud backups, behind your DMs, and pretty much everywhere else online—will be right behind it. eff.org/deeplinks/2022/02/if…

THREAD: You didn't hear about this. But last week, as every news outlet allowed police to use "rise in homicides" to argue for more punishment, the most robust criminological study in history was released. "Incarceration cannot be justified on grounds it affords public safety."

Clearly a rubicon moment for privacy and end-to-end encryption.
I worry if Apple faces anything other than existential annihilation for proposing continual surveillance of private messages then it won't be long before other providers feel the pressure to do the same.

I wrote about this dynamic in @newrepublic last month: making selected services free can only do so much for access when they're distributed through a system that millions of people are too terrified to use

Just realized that uninsured people have very lowest vax rate of any adult demographic, per @KHNews. Lines up w/ other reporting suggesting U.S. healthcare system is hampering vax efforts: ~1/3 unvaccinated cite "fear of cost" as reason, and many don't believe it's free

Protip: if you have a brilliant idea for a voting system and you’re uninterested in learning how elections work, what the requirements are, and what came before, don’t be surprised when people who actually know that stuff fail to think your idea is as brilliant as you do.

How was Facebook scraped? Effectively, the attacker created an address book with every phone number on the planet and then asked Facebook if his ’friends’ are on Facebook.

I was really upset that homeless people did not have access to the $1,400 stimulus check.
I just found this out. If you are homeless, you can go to a tax return office where they will file something called EIP return. They will put the money on a debit card after.

Shame on Google for letting your kids know they can't trust you. What an awful world where they find out that you're a duplicitous monster via an automated notification instead of when you pull out their personal secrets to score points in a petty argument like god intended.
Our 7 year old son has to have google for homeschooling so naturally we setup parental controls but look what @Google did. They sent my son an email to tell him his privacy is important to them and telling him we’re supervising his account. Let me explain what they’re doing.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is hellbent on doing as much damage as possible before the Biden administration takes office. And that includes doling out one last favor for Rupert Murdoch.
