I've never seen this before. And three C-suite folks at Twitter in the area of security and compliance just quit. Coincidence?
The week my workplace burned down and i had to rebuild all our servers and infra from backup in my CFOs dining room table: I went home to sleep in my own bed every night.

Mercurial (Version control) question: i have a commit with approximately 4000 diffs in it, across 2000 files. I want to split this change, based on a scripted test (i.e. hunk matches x -> commit A, else commit B) Are there tools for this?
Hm. I wonder if this is the time to go back to socializing on mailing lists.

It's weird. In my feed i see the trifecta of @stevemcghee, @niallm, and @ahidalgosre all say how wrong this is. But I just don't have that same negative reaction. Why am I supposed to get upset about this? What's the negative outcome this will cause?

people frequently get mad when they feel that their favorite methodology is being misrepresented (whether that's agile, devops, sre, or whatever). what's interesting to me is how readily misrepresentable they are. I am genuinely unsure whether this is more a feature or a bug.

It baffles me how DevOps stays so popular despite it being forbidden for anyone to have a job or org called "DevOps".
Does no one actually test their signups flows? My attempts to get either a Telstra or an Optus ESIM via their apps have been completely fruitless.

One of those troubleshooting hints that make perfect sense and allow me to bisect the problem space, but seems very silly at the same time: The operation having a timeout in 300.1 seconds vs. 299.9 seconds is a direct indicator of where in the stack the 5 minute timeout is.

I feel like this is a good starter concept, but can be expanded to more pieces of fatty, fried, salty food that are best served fresh.
after ordering a sandwich to go, the guy asked me if I wanted some "walking bacon." this was three strips of bacon separate from the sandwich, for me to eat while I walked away with the wrapped sandwich in my other hand. this is genius. all stores need walking bacon

Teaching is so weird because nobody seems to want to talk about how to explain things... which seems like it'd be something we'd talk a whole lot about. There are a few things I've learned from research into clarity of explanations that I wish I'd been taught earlier 1/

Yaaaaaas. Preach.
Just a reminder that all bug prioritisation schemes in practice degenerate to three scheduling categories: do it now, do it later, never do it. If you have a numbered system with many priority levels, what you actually have is a bureaucratic system of denial.

Today is another day that I am upset that we write down the date when software should break. Certificates expiry dates are a fundamental mistake.

A unique password that I only used on LiveJournal, which I deleted 10ish years ago just showed up as being compromised by my password manager. So that's a thing.
