Two Ukrainian civilians attempting to escape under a white flag were killed by a Russian soldier. Their dog was also killed.
A white flag is a visible signal of peaceful intent. Civilians fleeing danger are protected under international humanitarian law, regardless of which side controls the territory.
The incident raises serious questions about accountability for Russian forces and the protection of civilians.
Meanwhile, Trump, Witkoff and Musk have faced criticism over their public positions concerning Russia and the war.
Whatever diplomatic approach Washington chooses, the killing of fleeing civilians cannot be treated as a secondary concern.
Any serious effort to end this war must confront the violence being inflicted on the people trying to survive it.

Every day Russian strikes hit our energy infrastructure, causing extensive damage. Russia’s operation against our power generation, energy grids and interconnectors continues. It launched 17 ballistic missiles last night, some of which struck our oil refining infrastructure in Kremenchuk.
The Russians have not taken a single step toward energy de-escalation. We will act accordingly and justly.

Завдяки гуманітарній місії сьогодні з міста вивезли 21 автобус із місцевими. У 17 із них — українці, які хочуть повернутися на підконтрольну Україні територію. І це показово. Нас не тішить, що єдиний запропонований шлях евакуації пролягав лише через російську територію, але я радий, що вдалося врятувати багато життів.
Тим часом росія продовжує атакувати українські міста. Вона б’є по мостах, лікарнях, енергетиці, залізничних вокзалах, житлових будинках... За останні 24 години загинули 29 цивільних українців, близько 200 дістали поранення. путін не може досягти результатів на полі бою, тому з серпня змінив тактику і б’є по цивільних об’єктах.
Саме тому російські нафтопереробні заводи, які постачають пальне для російської армії, є легітимною ціллю. Україна пропонувала домовитися принаймні про енергетику: вони не атакують наші електростанції — ми не б’ємо по їхніх НПЗ. путін відмовився. Тепер він атакує цивільні об’єкти в Києві й вимагає від України припинити захищатися.
Єдиним виходом зараз має стати безумовне, негайне та всеосяжне припинення вогню. Мир настане лише тоді, коли стріляти перестане росія. Якщо ж припинить стріляти українська армія, не буде України. Це має розуміти весь світ.

He was found under the rubble in the arms of his 31-year-old mother Anna. They were asleep.
His father and older sister survived because they were in another room.
