The nonunion Associated Builders & Contractors came for Ann Arbor during Lansing's debate over best value procurement. My response. #a2council

Proud to lead the way in Michigan! On Oct 15, East Lansing passed Ordinance 1541, inspired by #A2Council Driving Equality Ordinance, which I led on July 6, 2023, honoring Philando Castile. Who’s next? Congratulations @CityofEL! Thanks @CMThomasPHL @verainstitute #DrivingEquality

Ann Arbor voters rejected 2 citizen-led ballot proposals that would have paved the way for conservative candidates to get elected. The margin was 2-1, similar to those by which my progressive colleagues and I were elected in primaries. #a2council 🧵
A2 friends: If you’re feeling hopeless today, please know that you can help us continue to lead Ann Arbor forward. We need you to serve on city boards and commissions, or to volunteer with one of the many nonprofit partners doing great work in this community.
Today is a day to mourn, and it’s also a time to think about next steps. Please reach out if you want to get involved or check these resources: a2gov.org/departments/city-c… and business.a2ychamber.org/list…

Prop C & D supporters say that I’m ‘interchangeable’ with any other Black woman. I ran for City Council to challenge this mindset and to represent those often ignored. Here’s why I’m voting NO. tinyurl.com/y8y49ymn #a2council #misogynoir #NotAPuppet

Honored that #a2council’s passage of the Right to Sit ordinance is paving the way for workers’ rights across Michigan. Grateful to Reps @DylanWegela, @RepRheingans, & others for introducing HB 5983 at the state level. I urge the Michigan Legislature to pass it! #MiRightToSit
‘Right to sit’ could become the law across Michigan following Ann Arbor’s lead mlive.com/politics/2024/10/r…

Who is funding A2 Props C & D?
To start:
$87k from a landlord.
$35k from an out-of-state PAC.
$25k from a Republican.
This was never about fair elections or big money - Proposals C & D are a deceptive ploy to put anti-housing conservatives back in power.
VOTE NO! #A2Council
On Monday, #a2council passed a "Right to Sit" ordinance, granting workers in the city the right to sit down on the job as long as it doesn’t interfere with their duties. I shared a personal story about why the law is necessary. bit.ly/a2RightToSit

The spokesman for these ballots actively advocates AGAINST student housing and yet solicits student votes. Tell it, @gayguycandleco. #a2council
Proponents of proposals C and D have glued (not just stapled or taped) fliers to posts all over downtown Ann Arbor. Naturally, they’re being ripped down because that’s what happens when you put fliers on public property, but because they were glued they leave behind a mess that will be left for city employees to clean up. These people don’t care about our city. If they did they wouldn’t deface public property. They just want to change the rules to put themselves in power.
Vote no, Ann Arbor. Vote no.
Thanks to all who came out and supported! #a2council
My council member, @jeneyer, aptly points out that if Proposal D passes, it could embroil the city in costly litigation as the attorney general’s office has declared it illegal. Personally, I’d rather hard-earned taxpayer dollars go toward providing public services — but hey!
