At least 16 journalists were brutally detained while covering public demonstrations in #India. In addition to the four journalists already mentioned, RSF has learned that Anushka Bhardwaj (#BusinessStandard), Hritik Joshi and Rahul Charas (@NavbharatTimes), Shoaib Daniyal (#Scroll), Anshu (@newslaundry ), Saurabh Sharma (@Reuters ), Jagriti Trisha (BOOM), Shivang Shukla (Mo), Neeraj Jha (@moliticsindia), and freelance journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta were also forcibly detained in #Delhi, along with Kinjal (@AltNews) in #Ahmedabad and Divya Aslesha (Scroll) in #Pune.
Covering events of public interest is not a crime. It is their job. The police's actions against the press are unacceptable.

A video showing a truck unloading waste onto a road is being falsely shared by social media users and some news outlets as an attempt by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to block protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar.
BOOM found that the video is from Panipat, Haryana, where sanitation workers staged a protest and dumped garbage at Samidhan Chowk, GT Road on August 17, 2026.

Speaking to BOOM, the woman journalist who accused ACP Vivek Bhagat of sexual assault, at a protest in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, has responded to viral claims surrounding an ‘AI-generated’ video circulating online.
She maintained that she possesses authentic evidence of the alleged assault, but added that she will not share it with the Delhi Police until an official FIR is registered. Watch the full video here ⬇️

The panic calls have started.
Passengers who booked air tickets through Mumbai airport in next few months; international inbound/outbound to domestic connections and vice a versa.
Which airport will their flight land in or take off from ?
More importantly, they earlier accounted for a 3-4 hour layover at Mumbai CST airport.
It is physically impossible to make it from or to the Navi Mumbai airport in this time frame.
There is no indication that tickets being issued today account for the changeover either.

A deep dive into the contentious Mumbai airport T1 rebuild project via @zinaldedhia04
A review of regulatory filings and statements by the airport operator shows that the scope and execution of the project have changed significantly — from rebuilding T1B, to a proposal to demolish the entire T1 complex, and now to a phased redevelopment beginning with only a section of T1B.
The earliest evidence dates to August 2017, when a structural audit of T1B was conducted.
By the 2019-20 regulatory planning period, MIAL had proposed about Rs 1,205 crore for reconstructing T1B, with AERA records explicitly stating that the existing terminal would be demolished and rebuilt.

Mumbai T2 was a new terminal built 12 years ago atop and alongside an existing, fully operational terminal with a seamless, overnight handover from a dump to a 4-storey engineering and architectural marvel.
Surely T1 can also build over with far less engineering complexity it would appear instead of making passengers suffer for all-round administrative laxity, failure of co-ordination and minimal if any foresight.

London Falling, the bestselling true-crime book by Patrick Radden Keefe has an interesting side-story.
In it, a London-based, Ugandan-Indian businessman Akbar Shamji claims to have been felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 for being "One of only eight recipients of a prestigious `Re-Invest Award'
He circulates a picture liberally in which it looks like he is accepting that award.
The New Yorker - where Keefe works - fact checks this and establishes that in the photograph in question, it is actually Shamji alongwith 27 private companies giving Modi a `Green Energy Commitment Certificate' and not Modi giving him an award !
Keefe says they even tracked down a video which showed Akbar shaking hands with Modi, giving his commitment certificate and walking away empty handed !
Interestingly, online, you will still find both versions of this photograph.

Gujarat cops (accompanied by Delhi police) came to journalist Ravi Nair’s home over a story he did with The Washington Post on Adani. An FIR has been lodged against Ravi, but not The Washington Post, based on a complaint by an Adani Group staffer.
The police took away two of Ravi’s phones, his son’s laptop, and the laptop and iPad of a colleague who happened to be at home and is not an accused in the case. The cops had a judicial magistrate’s order. Refused to give hash value of the devices

Sanjay Hegde’s column suggests the Bombay High Court judgement did not address the lift door issue. He calls it a “demolished central claim”. But if you read the judgement it goes deeply into the issue and concludes that the lift door could have been kept closed by Tejpal by continually pressing the close button.
Here’s what the High Court judgement suggests:
* The doors automatically open when the lift reaches a floor.
* They normally remain open for 4 seconds.
* There is a close button inside.
* Pressing the close button makes them close faster than the normal time.
* The Court says it was therefore possible for Tejpal to keep his finger on the close button, so that the doors would remain open for only those four seconds.
* On that basis, the Court concluded that he could have “maneuvered the lift to ensure the doors were shut.”
The issues of lift mechanics and interpreting the cctv footage are neither “central” nor “demolished”. An SMS from Tejpal saying “the fingertips” and two apology letters should have been enough to convict him.
The Tejpal defence has been going on and on about lift and cctv as if the SMS and apology letters don’t exist.
It’s also a bit much to suggest Tarun agreed to press send on two apology emails just because he was ‘coerced’ to do so by Shoma. Can anyone ‘coerce’ you to send two apology emails to your entire staff if you did nothing wrong whatsoever?
