THE $TSLA NARRATIVE IS WRONG
Tesla has never been a stock for the faint of heart. Over the last decade, the company has faced -- and overcome -- wave after wave of skepticism, from existential production challenges in 2017-2018 to liquidity concerns that nearly brought the company to its knees, to brand risk stemming from Musk’s Twitter takeover. Now, Tesla bulls find themselves in yet another battle, as bearish sentiment dominates the headlines. Concerns over lackluster demand, aggressive EV competition, and Musk’s polarizing public persona have put pressure on the stock. But this moment isn’t a breaking point -- it’s an inflection point. That’s why I added 15% to my position on this dip.
The market is still treating Tesla as just an EV company, missing the fundamental shift that’s already underway. Tesla’s long-term value isn’t tied to vehicle deliveries alone -- it’s about the AI-driven ecosystems being built on top of its core products. The company’s ability to integrate FSD, autonomy, robotics, and AI-powered manufacturing is what sets it apart from every other automaker. The next 3-5 years will define Tesla’s transition from a high-growth car company to a technology powerhouse, and Wall Street’s current bearishness is an opportunity to build long-term exposure before that realization fully sets in.
Tesla’s shift begins with autonomy. This summer, the company is launching unsupervised FSD in Austin, a milestone that will kick off a multi-phase rollout of its AI-powered driving network. Once Tesla proves that its FSD system can operate safely without human oversight, it unlocks an entirely new revenue model: software licensing. The vision is clear -- Tesla isn’t just building cars -- it’s creating an autonomous platform that will be monetized across multiple industries. The biggest automakers in the world are still years behind in autonomy, and as the technology gap widens, Tesla will be in prime position to license its FSD technology, generating high-margin, recurring software revenue. The launch of Tesla’s Cybercab network in 2025 will further validate the company’s autonomous ambitions, demonstrating the viability of AI-powered, driverless ride-hailing.
But autonomy isn’t the only play. Tesla’s Optimus robotics initiative is another piece of the puzzle, positioning the company at the forefront of AI-powered automation. The market is currently ignoring the implications of Optimus, but the use cases are vast -- from manufacturing and logistics to retail and healthcare. As the technology matures, Optimus has the potential to be one of Tesla’s most significant value drivers, rivaling the impact of its EV business. Musk has already stated that Optimus could eventually outpace Tesla’s vehicle division in revenue.
Of course, Tesla’s core automotive business isn’t standing still. The launch of a sub-$35K Model 2 before summer is expected to reignite demand and push the company back toward a 2M+ run rate in annual deliveries. This isn’t just a low-cost car -- it’s a strategic move to expand Tesla’s TAM and solidify its position as the dominant player in EVs. The biggest concern from analysts has been slowing EV demand, but the simple truth is that price elasticity still matters -- although I do think he has built some permanent distaste among consumers from his recent behavior.
The bottom line? The market’s bearishness is focused on the wrong things. Tesla’s valuation won’t be driven by car sales in five years -- it will be about AI, autonomy, robotics, and software. The company’s biggest value unlocks are happening now, yet the stock is trading as if Tesla is a struggling automaker instead of the leader in AI-driven mobility. I’m being patient, but I’m also adding because I see what’s coming. The Tesla we’ll be talking about in 2026 will look nothing like the one being debated today.
