Tears of those being cast out of the churches they love > tears of those doing the casting out
Sending love and solidarity to dear siblings in the SBC, CRCNA, and beyond suffering the profound grief of exclusion when the Church should be a beacon of belonging and a place of hope
I attended a school that in culture and heritage Christian Reformed. Though they refuse any longer to acknowledge me, I honor them for how they shaped and formed me. What the CRCNA is saying to queer folks and our allies is horrible and unconscionable
When asked to name a famous living Asian American, 26% of those surveyed said, "I don't know." The next most popular answer (12%) was Jackie Chan, who isn't American. Third (6%): Bruce Lee, who is dead.

May I and all I love never do anything to deserve a destruction as precise, cutting, thorough, and brutal as this one.
Nothing makes a straight, white pastor appreciate my work in the world more than their sudden need for a book endorsement.
Capital punishment is a marker of a culture of death. School shootings are markers of a culture of death.
Doubling down on capital punishment will not solve the uniquely American problem of mass school shootings.
Only a collective repudiation of our culture of death—including repenting of our obsession with guns, including acknowledging our inclination toward violence—will end this ongoing tragedy.
Blackburn belongs to a PCA church—same denom as the school where today's murders happened. Among her own congregation's stated values: "We will seek to be good neighbors in every place, inside and outside of our homes."
What if being good neighbors means repentance on guns?
I confess, and I repent: I did click on the link to that TGC article, and now I am in need of both cleansing and forgiveness.
It’s been an honor to have my words appear (very occasionally) in the New York Times. And I’m grateful for the opportunity to add my name to this letter in support of our trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming siblings.
180 (and counting) past and present New York Times contributors have signed an open letter to the paper’s standards editor condemning the ongoing unethical anti-trans bias in its coverage of trans, non-binary and gender nonconforming people. Read it here nytletter.com
New and different for me: @facebook suspended me for not following community standards.
I've not used FB much lately beyond an occasional like. Yesterday I posted one comment: An acquaintance promoted a Xn gathering. I said it was exhausting to see yet another all-white lineup.
Two hours later, my account was suspended. Did someone report that comment? @Facebook won't tell me. But it does seem curious, given that I have posted nothing else recently.
