Il est 20h. Les enfants sont couchés.
Vous êtes tranquillement devant la télé avec votre femme.
Soudain, des cris éclatent dans la rue. Des coups, des vitres qui explosent. Des dizaines d’émeutiers vêtus de noir s’en prennent à votre immeuble. Ils tentent de forcer la porte, saccagent le hall, arrachent les boîtes aux lettres.
Vos enfants se réveillent en hurlant. Votre femme panique.
Vous appelez la police.
« Tous nos agents sont occupés, veuillez patienter. »
Puis la communication coupe.
Vous jetez un œil par la fenêtre. En bas, ils viennent de mettre le feu aux poubelles. Les flammes lèchent déjà la façade. La fumée commence à entrer dans l’appartement.
Soudain, un grand fracas.
La porte de l’immeuble vient de céder.
Des hurlements montent dans l’escalier.
« On va vous tuer ! Ouvrez cette putain de porte ! »
Ils sont sur votre palier.
Vous n’osez même pas regarder par l’œil de bœuf.
Que faire ?
Sortir ? Fuir ? Impossible. Ils sont dans l’escalier.
Sauter par la fenêtre ? Vous êtes au quatrième étage.
Se défendre ? Avec quoi ?
Vous n’avez jamais pensé avoir besoin de vous défendre chez vous. Vous avez toujours fait confiance à l’État. Les armes, ce n’est pas votre truc.
Vous avez travaillé toute votre vie, payé vos impôts, respecté les lois.
Et maintenant, vous voilà coincé dans votre propre appartement, avec vos enfants en pleurs et votre femme qui vous demande ce qu’on va faire.
Derrière la porte, les pas se rapprochent.
Cette fois, ce n’est pas une vidéo d’émeutes que vous regardez à la télévision. C’est chez vous que ça se passe.
Et personne ne viendra vous protéger.

This woman has taken her socials down.
Despite the fact that she told me to kill myself and wished death upon me, I don't want anyone saying those things to her. And notably, none of us did. None of us said anything to her at all.
I'd only like for her to reflect on this sort of public behavior as obviously not ok. But I doubt that is happening. Whatever inundation on her socials she received will only serve to radicalize her more and make her feel more justified in her viciousness. She believes she is righteous and "doing the work" of social justice.

Hey so if an armed citizen just had to break the law in order to save lives by taking his gun into a school, and Oregon does not change that law in response to at least exempt those with a carry permit going forward, what does that tell us?

Two years ago, Everytown bragged about how it had helped get legal carry banned in more than half of schools in Oregon.
Yesterday, someone had to ignore Everytown's reprehensible law to save lives, putting himself in legal peril to do so.

Why is it every time there is a shooting in a state that has done what you asked, the response is to pretend like it's Montana or something?
Giffords rates Oregon gun laws as an "A-".
You also helped make it easier for localities in Oregon to ban armed citizens from legally carrying on school grounds, and based on current reporting, an armed bystander is what stopped the suspect today.
My heart is completely broken for the children, families, teachers, and entire Silver Rail Elementary community in Bend, Oregon today.
Elementary school should be about jungle gyms, math class, and making new friends—not learning where to hide from a shooter. We cannot keep asking our children to be brave enough to survive school shootings. Our leaders must be brave enough to stop them.

Oregon has passed a number of gun laws in recent years, and generally prohibits carry on school grounds. These changes were cheered by the major national antigun groups like Giffords, Everytown, and Brady.
None of those assaults on the Second Amendment stopped the killer today. What apparently did, if this reporting is accurate, was an armed citizen.
And remember, the position of those same gun control groups is that regular citizens carrying on school grounds, even with a permit, should always be illegal.
The alleged shooter, believed to be a teenager, was killed by a Good Samaritan, federal law enforcement sources tell us.

More than half of all gun-related deaths in "kids" are concentrated in ages 16 and 17. A total of 1,154 out of the 2,108 combined deaths in the 0-17 age group.
Less than 15% are among ages 0-12.
It's just so dishonest and misleading to make people think this is a problem of little Timmy finding his negligent father's unsecured gun and killing himself or a friend by mistake, which is what they want you to be imagining.
Really, it's disproportionately teenage gangbangers in cities that have not elected Republican leadership in generations.
Homicide is at an all-time low in the United States right now, which is exactly the opposite of what Giffords predicted would happen.
As for the "leading cause of death for kids" stat, their favorite, that is both no longer true, and deeply misleading in the first place. It isn't "kids" in general that are the driver of this, it is older teenagers in primarily Democrat-run cities. In other words, the cities that Giffords's friends are in charge of are the ones that consistently fail to stop youth violence. It is not a general problem.
Data per the CDC. The first chart is all gun-related deaths for minors, ages 0-17. As you can see, it's really teenagers this affects, not kids generally. 2,108 such deaths in total.
The second chart is the same age group, but motor vehicle and other transportation-related deaths (e.g., car accidents). The total is 2,211 such deaths.
As of 2025, firearms are not the leading cause of death for minors, and they never were a significant cause of death for "kids" or "children" as most people understand that term (i.e., younger than teenagers).
