📢 I'm sharing with my LinkedIn network that I am moving on from Iress. I've been made redundant - through an organisational restructure to go from discipline-based to product line operating model. There is no longer a need for a global design leader to o…lnkd.in/gF9QUqw5

People who matter…
Peter Eckersley saw the internet's potential but he also saw its danger -- and he approached both not with dollar signs in his eyes but with a humanitarians level of care and commitment.

Too much focus is put on improving product managers as individuals - skills, mindset, development. This is local optimization. Good #ProductManagement requires system thinking. The biggest success factor is the mindset of the org.

DC AG is suing Zuck personally over the 2015 Cambridge Analytica scandal. I'm not disappointed to see the government enforcing privacy rights and holding individuals accountable, I'm just a little confused as to why Cambridge Analytica is still treated like an outlier. (1/)

Truth!
“imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” the less remembered is the rest of the stanza: “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness”. When you are just making something to match the competition, one has failed at the starting line.

Awesome team building things that matter!
If you've had a conversation with me recently, you know I can't shut up about the amazing work we're doing at Formally to transform legal collaboration starting with immigration... it brings me SO MUCH joy to share that we're funded!⚡️ (P.S. we're hiring) formally.com/blog-post/Annou…

Dear @elonmusk, data control is the precondition for data dignity. Ethical tech is not zero sum and we should stop seeing it as a principle that exists in tension with monetization, free speech or user experience.

It’s time to say it out loud: BUILD LESS SOFTWARE Centering too much on adding new functionality will break your product, your users, and your team. Maybe your business. 1/10

This is some of the most important work underway to secure our digital data future #EthicalTech
We had big dreams for what the internet could be but we've wound up with a digital wild west where big tech can collect, purchase and sell our data with no safeguards. Pessimists want us all to believe that we're stuck with what we've got. I don't buy it. #DataPrivacyDay

This is profound truth that is ill understood and typically ignored by software product companies, at their own peril!
To me, the existence of a backlog is a sign of failure. Your communication and feedback process is so awful, that you know in advance you won’t learn what to do next when your build the current thing, so you need a list of contingencies to handle that problem.

Truth! Stay in it long enough and you learn that to drive change and make impact, there is only one choice!
Your peers focus more on the analytical stuff (math, models, systems...) because they think it makes them look smarter and less on the softer stuff (mindset, feelings, people...) because they think it makes them look weak. You can join that herd, or differentiate. Choose wisely.
If making big changes doesn't make you nervous and doesn't involve risk, is it a big or worthy change?

This awesome video is a lot like the long journey of taking a product from an early concept to massive adoption, with the added complication that the book will randomly whack you from time to time (h/t @ValaAfshar) xitter.cf/Elzo_/status/145594993…

Data guy earns $$$ in a job he hates I offer $$$$ to build and lead a data org He accepts $$$$$ elsewhere to "have less independence, but I want to buy a house in Sydney" Did you just exchange a lead role in a war for a walk-on part in a cage?

I remember writing insanely boring engineering research papers at uni in the '80s, and laboriously typing them out on WordPerfect the night before it was due. But kids these days...🙄 bushfireaustralia.info/
